Sony PS3 Launch: armed guards, golden tickets, and oompaloompas...

Certainly not as boring as this wait...

Not to be outdone by the Wii launch parties, Sony did several things for their launch. For example, the first three people waiting in line at the SonyStyle store in Manhattan, New York were given their PS3's for free, and another one in line was lucky enough to find a special ticket in a gift bag. Oooh. Golden Tickets!

There were also a few celebrities at the event, among them were rapper Ludacris, DJ D-Nice, and Karime Adibebe, the latest Lara Croft model. Oh, and Kaz Hirai and Howard Stringer were also there to hand out consoles.

Over at San Francisco, Jack Tretton was there, he was accompanied by a cadre of mock armed guards to deliver the first batch of units. It won't have been over the top if the boxes actually had consoles in them. The oompaloompas probably took the consoles... or something.

Inside the flagship PlayStation Store, over 700 PS3's were piled high, waiting to be picked up by a crowd of wristband wearing fans. The wristband by the way is very important. If you don't have one, you don't get a console.

Well, having to endure cheesy mock guards and a whole shipment of empty boxes certainly seems better than getting mugged or shot at while waiting in line.

The first THREE did. That's too cool for a Sony fan, kinda lame for everyone else though.
