Sony: PS3 Christmas line up never been stronger

Playstation 3 - Image 1No holiday blues for SCEUK">SCEUK managing Director Ray Maguire. During the Games 3.0 conference in London, he proudly claimed that the PS3 "has never been in a stronger position." Considering the rather bare year 2007 was for the PlayStation, that's not really saying much, imho.

Still, with titles like Resistance 2 and LittleBigPlanet, Maguire's statement is not an empty one.

He explained his feelings on the subject, comparing PlayStation's contenders for the holidays versus Xbox's:

This is the first year for me that I can sit back and think, 'yeah we've got five super strong titles'. Some of them ground breaking by creating almost a new genre and the others starting to really use the strength of the Cell chip and the graphics. When I look at LittleBigPlanet, when I look at Resistance, when I look at MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, and then I look at things like Abba on SingStar, before we even get into Killzone next year, I think we've got a line-up really to be proud of.

PlayStation 3 will have it's work cut out for it, though: Fable 2 is already out and Gears of War 2 is just around the corner. Gonna be hard to uproot those especially with the Xbox 360 price cuts looking so good.

» Line Up

360 has Banji Kazooie: Nutz and Bolts; Wii has Mario Galaxy; what does the PS3 have for innovative 3D platformers that are on-par with Mario 64?--an actual question, please don't say LittleBigPlanet ... not the same thing.

» What do you mean??

LittleBigPlanet is a innovative 3D platformers that's on-par with Mario 64

by Apeaggedon - 2008-10-30 14:57
» Mario 64 is good

its ignorance.

» He said 6 he named 4 for the holidays and one for 2k9...

I'm not impressed at all... All I want if RPGs. Okay, Valkyria Chronicles is looking nice, but I like to have a choice, lol.

And thinking only about exclusives, sony doesn't have a big lineup for me at all. Only Valkyria. While the x360 could have last remnant (I can't say), which the ps3 won't (surely won't, at least). Okay, the japanese will get white knight story, wich is looking FAR AWAY better than any other JRPGs on x360/ps3/wii, and a game that will surely be known as one of the best of it's kind (devs are level 5, wich only made AAA JRPGs to date, min. of 9 in gamespot rankings). But it's surely not popping in the US before next summer, sadly...

» Genre,

LittleBigPlanet is a Side-Scroller, like Klonoa but with puzzles and stages. I meant games like Mario Sunshine or Psychonauts.

» Valkyria Chronicles

Valkyria Chronicles is something JRPG fans would wish for to be ported to the Xbox 360. The graphics style is possibly the most innovative art style for an RPG for a long time.

LittleBigPlanet .

» there is no point

giving you choice. You will only choose Valkyria Chronicles anyways. This way at least Sony can focus on one good game instead of giving 10 different pieces of crap...

» Did Research

The game that would fit in the Genre, would be Rachet and Clank... Thanks,

LittleBigPlanet is a co-op puzzle game... not the same thing.

» On the other hand,

Star Ocean IV is a gem for action-RPG fans... don't worry about IU... *shudder*

» Valkyria Chronicles

Is definitely gonna be the best rpg this year, who needs a choice when you got the best? Not to mentions it's the only one that's trying to do something new, which no jrpg ever try's to do, they just wait till the next final fantasy and then copy it. You also got Disgaea 3 and Eternal Sonata

by ISOHaven - 2008-10-31 07:04
» WTF!?!?!?!?!

You don't have to play co-op. You asked for platformers and you got one.

» well...

the 360 in general has better games and games run better on it. the fact is that the 360 is more of a gaming console, while the PS3 is more of a multimedia device on your tv (internet browser, bluray player, ect.) If you prefer the console best at gaming, buy a 360. If you prefer the console that has many multimedia capabilities buy the ps3. if you want both... buy a PC.

btw I have a ps3, and im dissappointed with it so Im gonna trade it with 3 games to a friend for the 360 and 5 games, especiallly since Im a Star Ocean fan and need to have Star cean 4. still, its not that it isa bad console, its rather good and contains lots of stuff for the price, but I just made the wrong judgement and thought buying the ps3 for games was the best choice (and it seems my friend feels he also made a bad choice since he really wants bluray).

Are you all unable to read? 3D Platformers... Sonic Adventure... Marito 64? Do you realy think TBP is the same kind of game? the game i was looking for was R+C... drop it.

by ISOHaven - 2008-10-31 11:55
» WTF!?!?!?!?!

LBP is 3D. It's all 3D models with textures. You are trying to split hairs and are failing.

by kimdrummel - 2008-10-31 12:17
» Haha

Theyre 360 fanboys. They try to count LBP out of the "competition" just because they know it kicks all the other 3D Platformers asses and its the PS3 that has it and not Xbox. XD

by torres1944 - 2008-10-31 12:20
» well all i have to say is .............

x-box is alright, but no where in hell doe sit compare to the ps3! ps3 all the way bltches!!!!! you x-box people just dont know. oh yeah one more thing you a-box people............. come get some!

by ackeejag - 2008-11-01 00:54
» oh wow

did you really use mario galaxy? isnt that game like a year old. ratchet and clank, a new spyro game, and pixel junk eden which isnt 3D but just as fun.

There are tons of great platformers out there for the ps3 that aren't LBP. troll harder. Also, banjo Kazooie isnt even out yet. Dont assume it will be great because it will only hurt more when it gets a 7/10

by Izuna - 2008-11-01 05:57
» ok

I was asking 'what' game other than LBP, I didn't say what is better, Banjo Kazooie has a massive demo and yes it isn't crappy.

Don't assume I don't actually own LBP, I was asking Qj for a game to buy for the PS3 that was similar to them.

And yes, LBP is great, and so is Banjo Kazooie; but again they aren't the same kind of games.

» Fanboyisms

I get the whole being a fanboy thing -rooting for your favorite console. You can only play games on one system and if the other system wins, you'll have fewer games.

It seems to me that the ps3 is technically superior (though not by as large a margin as fanboys would have you believe) but the 360 will always be ahead because of the price issue.

That said, I stayed away from the 360 because I was bitter with MS's business strategy. The day the 360 came out, my original xbox was completely obsolete. There were only a handful of games released for it after that (I think there was only one I actually wanted). My ps2, however, continued to have new games available til... I don't even know when they stopped--it was after I lost interest in ps2.

Also, by the time MS got the rrod issue worked out (is it actually worked out now, or just mostly?) I'd been playing my ps3 for months.

So, while I am happy with my ps3 and have no interest in 360, I still don't feel the need to stoop to fanboyish behavior. If you're happy with your console, then be happy with it. If not, buy the other one. If you feel threatened by the other one, how about NOT showing your weakness?
