Sony preparing 'Life with PlayStation' service |

Earlier today, Sony exec Kaz Hirai announced that it was preparing a new service for PlayStation 3 users, which they've dubbed Life with PlayStation. Similar to some other services on the Wii, Life with PlayStation will launch with news and weather information channels, but will expand to other services in the future.
The basic interface is a globe of the earth that could be spun to show different world territories, with major cities marked on the map. With each major city, you could view news headlines and weather conditions for each, all while listening to user-defined music from your PS3's hard disk.
It also appears as if the news headlines link to internet webpages, so we could probably expect Sony to make partnerships with specific news-gathering companies, and perhaps other companies as well to subsidize the cost of using Life with PlayStation through advertising or other means.
Details are still scarce as to when the service will go live, but it's an exciting prospect, to say the least. In the meantime, you can view pictures of the basic service in action by following the source link below.

I prefer PSN but it needs a title that encourages less accusations of copying.

so the title isnt a problem as long as people know what it is.

I for one only own a PS3, so this service sounds great. I don't follow any other console news, so to me, this is innovative. I love when Sony makes the console I bought even better!

I'm not a fanboy in the least.
Besides, who the hell cares which console has it, we all obviously have the internet.
What I'm saying is that, for consoles, the Wii had it first.
Now we get to see the same thing all over again. How exciting.
Why the hell are they working on stupid ***** like this anyways? Take the people that are working on this, and put them to work on the new firmware... or even Home for that matter.
You fanboys are just pathetic.

do you prefer it over all other features that the PS could have
get to work on something useful, i really dont see why people use this crap, turn the TV on the news is always on, one of the channels, or read a news paper, maybe even venture outside and find it out that way
or even look out the windows to see what the weather is like

2. completly different people and companys are working on this, home and firmware, so we cant force workers on something they dont know how to do, lol that like forcing bungie to make ps3 games, they do not know the system, so it would look really crappy till months of learning the system, then they could work on it
3. you know what else had some first? online! omg the wii copied the other consoles for having online! omg they copied again! person avatars? omg again! /sarcasm,
and with a final note, who cares if somebody makes a simular service, it gives us gamers more for better, who should you care if a felllow gamer gets motion control like the wii on his 360, its a form of defending your manhood, even if nothing if threating your wii, you take every thing as if they are all tryin to,

You, Sir, are an idiot. Just because your precious "Home" or "v2.40" hasn't arrived you think it's ok to flame others for looking forward to ADDED features, it's not like they're taking anything away from us.

i think this sounds like an awesome idea but what about those of us who live in small towns? we will have to rely on the weather report of a major city that is at least an hour away? or maybe even 2 hours depending on how major the cities have to be.
