Life With PlayStation announced - Image 1

Earlier today, Sony exec Kaz Hirai announced that it was preparing a new service for PlayStation 3 users, which they've dubbed Life with PlayStation. Similar to some other services on the Wii, Life with PlayStation will launch with news and weather information channels, but will expand to other services in the future.

The basic interface is a globe of the earth that could be spun to show different world territories, with major cities marked on the map. With each major city, you could view news headlines and weather conditions for each, all while listening to user-defined music from your PS3's hard disk.

It also appears as if the news headlines link to internet webpages, so we could probably expect Sony to make partnerships with specific news-gathering companies, and perhaps other companies as well to subsidize the cost of using Life with PlayStation through advertising or other means.

Details are still scarce as to when the service will go live, but it's an exciting prospect, to say the least. In the meantime, you can view pictures of the basic service in action by following the source link below.

How... original.

OR... you could just turn on your Wii and get all of that information from the main channels menu! Wow, way to go Sony.

yea

yea but you also get the benefit of playing good games on a console that isnt *****

well

I usually hate when people do this, but isnt Life very similar to Live... as in Xbox Live? I prefer PSN but it needs a title that encourages less accusations of copying.

well

Life with PlayStation is a completely different thing than Xbox Live, so i dont see where any accusations of copying would come in since from what i know Xbox doesnt even offer a service like this. so the title isnt a problem as long as people know what it is.

I dont see why someone would say this is just like what nintendo did.

I can see where people are coming from when they say sucha thing thoug. The problem is. almost everything, on every console is like the others. consoles all play games. most of them have similar features inheriently anyway. To call bogus on another console using a great idea. is just. wiitarded..

Some people are idiots

Just because you have a Wii or an Xbox...doesn't mean everyone else does too. I for one only own a PS3, so this service sounds great. I don't follow any other console news, so to me, this is innovative. I love when Sony makes the console I bought even better!

Sounds good to me.

I would use this feature but I wouldn't PAY to use this feature.

wow

it's an exciting prospect, to say the least that is some great journalism talking ******** lol seriously why would you want the fuss of all that go on the internet and go to rss feeds on a homepage or heres a funny turn the tele on , seriously or maybe even go out a socialise and get the news that way AHHHHHHHHH! pointless service, one which will just clutter up the xmb, hopefully its a optional install

Ugly People.

Actually, I own both the PS3 and the Wii. I'm not a fanboy in the least. Besides, who the hell cares which console has it, we all obviously have the internet. What I'm saying is that, for consoles, the Wii had it first. Now we get to see the same thing all over again. How exciting. Why the hell are they working on stupid ***** like this anyways? Take the people that are working on this, and put them to work on the new firmware... or even Home for that matter. You fanboys are just pathetic.
by games133 - 2008-06-26 13:00:38
who cares

dose it mater who thought of it first as long sony try to make it better and easyer to use? i think the idea is good but we will have to ce what its interface is like and if they make it any good.

awesome idea girandhistacos!

Because you know that EVERYONE has a Wii! Yeah, let me go turn on my non-existant Wii and talk about how Sony is copying off of them. Cri moar.
by NarooN - 2008-06-26 13:23:36
and again.

If you don't like this service, then just shut up. No one cares about your opinion, and the service is there, SCEI won't just drop it because 2 people say they dislike it.

quick question

do you actually really really want this do you prefer it over all other features that the PS could have get to work on something useful, i really dont see why people use this crap, turn the TV on the news is always on, one of the channels, or read a news paper, maybe even venture outside and find it out that way or even look out the windows to see what the weather is like
by darkgeekrocker - 2008-06-26 16:58:18
for the matter

1. not everybody has/wants a wii 2. completly different people and companys are working on this, home and firmware, so we cant force workers on something they dont know how to do, lol that like forcing bungie to make ps3 games, they do not know the system, so it would look really crappy till months of learning the system, then they could work on it 3. you know what else had some first? online! omg the wii copied the other consoles for having online! omg they copied again! person avatars? omg again! /sarcasm, and with a final note, who cares if somebody makes a simular service, it gives us gamers more for better, who should you care if a felllow gamer gets motion control like the wii on his 360, its a form of defending your manhood, even if nothing if threating your wii, you take every thing as if they are all tryin to,
by DigiTalDeaD - 2008-06-26 18:37:37
@emcp

You are a complete idiot, if you want to use that attitude, why did you even buy a PS3? Why don't you just go outside and play "real games", how can you say news and weather isn't useful? Looking outside will not tell you if it's going to rain in an hours time, what about those leaving for somewhere in the early morning and they need to check the Weather summary for the day? You, Sir, are an idiot. Just because your precious "Home" or "v2.40" hasn't arrived you think it's ok to flame others for looking forward to ADDED features, it's not like they're taking anything away from us. 0.o

480P OR 1080P?

I'd much rather read text in 1080p than 480p.
by erikbirk2 - 2008-06-27 05:40:24
cool...

well its awesome how stuff always turns into a pathetic immature argument. i think this sounds like an awesome idea but what about those of us who live in small towns? we will have to rely on the weather report of a major city that is at least an hour away? or maybe even 2 hours depending on how major the cities have to be.
