PlayStation 3 - Image 1

Here's a rather disturbing update about the Error 80010514 that's currently plaguing the Sony PlayStation 3 scene: it seems that Sony is currently unaware of the fact that it exists, or that it's making life quite difficult for starting PS3 owners. Difficult in the sense that it's halting the next-gen gaming experience in its tracks.

This news comes directly from a Sony Computer Entertainment UK spokesperson. He said, "I've spoken to our Customer Services department and they aren't aware of this issue with the PS3."

For those of us who missed the earlier news reports about this particular error, Error 80010514 pretty much is the Sony PlayStation 3's gremlin, just as the Red Ring of Death is the Microsoft Xbox 360's.

Manifesting itself as either a faulty sector of the internal hard drive or a faulty installation of firmware, Error 80010514 pretty much stops any game being played on a PlayStation 3. You can still play DVD and even Blu-ray movies on the console with no problems, but when you try to play a game, it's when that the error rears its ugly head.

While it's certainly obvious that none of us saw it coming, the fact that Sony itself is not prepared for something like this is quite disconcerting. Of course, we have to give it to Sony for having a quick and prompt repair service, such as when GameRevolver's own 60GB PS3 conked out. In any case, updates as we get them.

you cant compare it to the red ring of death, it doesnt happen nearly as often (if you cant tell im still bitter from my 5th red ring of death)

» true...

Xbox 360's Red Ring does not let you do anything, let alone play movies...

» lmao

I bet if you restart the problem will be solved.

And doesn't the red ring of death totaly screw up your system.

I'm not supprised that Sony doesnt know about it because I don't think it happend to a lot of systems (if one ps3 installs the firmware wrong that doesnt mean all of them will) and I know mine obviously didn't because I havent seen that message once (and I had my ps3 for about a year and 4 months).

» and then

you get idiots left and right trying to mess with firmwares.

» this bug does exisist,

however, its been blown out of perportion. so very few people experience this bug :( this is perpetuated by microsoft, they want to take on the ps3 so badly. they seed the forums, spread the word of the bug so people will fear to buy it.

the truth is, this bug is something that happens, but everything can have problems, where are the number of people effected by this bug? where are the broken units?

a console war is going on guys you have to remember, they will try to sway the public to one side in any way they can, even when making a mountain out of a mole hill.

» Console War is Still Raging

It's true, Microsoft and Nintendo really do hire people off the streets to create forum handles on a rival company's message board and spread lies about how they shouldn't buy the system. I'm not saying that Sony doesn't do it because it's possible, and Nintendo probably hasn't, but it was confirmed in a magazine that Microsoft does it. Playing dirty, but it is a console war going on after all...

» to be honest,

nintendo with its squeeky clean image.

I would be a little suspicious of them too, they have a great image to hide a lot of dirty deeds behind....

» 60gig model Ps3 giving just red flashing light.

60gig model Ps3 giving just red flashing light.

Just two weeks over my 12month warrenty and my ps3 is giving me flashing red light after switching power on at the back of the console. Nothing wil work at all just constant red light only flashing constantly.

Anyone know a fix for this. I am well gutted after just getting gt5prologue and rainbow six vagas2. This fault occured after playing gt5prologue. My ps3 just wont do anything apart from red light flash, No fan noise no reaction to holding power button. Nothing at all.

Anyone know what I can do.

Cheers

» WTF!?!?!?!?!

"it seems that Sony is currently unaware of the fact that it exists, or that it's making life quite difficult for starting PS3 owners."

That's a down right lie! Go to the Sony forums, they are ABSOLUTELY aware of this error number and that people have this issue once in a while.

If that truly came out of a UK spokespersons mouth then only "SCE UK" doesn't know about it. Which would be sad to say the least.
