Sony, mum on US revisions for PS3 |

The European PS3s have no backward compatibility without downloading firmware for it. Why should this matter if you're in the US? Because it could happen to you. Sony Computer Entertainment America was contacted by 1Up regarding this matter. The reply it got didn't do much to clear things up. A Sony Representative responded, "We have no announcement regarding any hardware specification changes for PS3 in North America at this time."
As of now, people everywhere are wondering about the configuration of the next shipment of PS3s. Will they still be backward compatible? Or will we need to download new firmware to play our huge collection of PS2 games? Only time will tell.

Here's the spin....
SCEE president David Reeves added, "PS3 is first and foremost a system that excels in playing games specifically designed to exploit the power and potential of the PS3 system. Games designed for PS3 offer incredible graphics quality, stunning gameplay and massively improved audio and video fidelity that is simply not achievable with PS and PS2 games. Rather than concentrate on PS2 backwards compatibility, in the future, company resources will be increasingly focused on developing new games and entertainment features exclusively for PS3, truly taking advantage of this exciting technology."
In other words they are doing an M$, they are focusing on new games.

Didn't you guys noticed all the rumors are from 1UP like that Microsoft is buying CAPCOM witch lead to another rumor about DMC 4 going 360.
And the best thing is they make the rumor and then they call sony to see if it is true. What the f$#@ is that.
If you guyz do not believe me just Google (1 up biased) and you will see how many forums talking about this issue or even watch their video podcast or even the interview they made with God of war maker.

Also, it's nothing to do with PAL. Pal means little more than the fact it is using a 50Hz signal instead of 60Hz. It's just another way they can lose less money on each PS3.

Why this is a big deal is beyond me.
Complaining about this makes as much sense to me as country music, and organized religion.
Completely baffled I am

Then you have to be the one of the 500,000 that have to sign up to get the blu-ray version of Casino Royale whilst the U.S get there blu-ray packaged in the console then this outrage out having less backwards compatibility for ps2 / ps1 games than the U.S and japan.
Sony just keep screwing us UK / E.U citizens over and over and over and over and over again we need to teach Sony a lesson about equal rights.
And before i forget you guys aint gonna believe this but two guys broke into a store or a place dunno which just to play a ps3 before its released in the pal territories click on this to see what im talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0S7k6lPcQw

Ken Kutaragi:
"...the PS3 will feature backwards compatibility with PS and PS2 games from day one. I'm emphasizing this because, from what I hear, there are some platforms that haven't been able to completely do this. It's costly in terms of hardware, but we'd rather [invest] firmly on compatibility from the beginning, rather than to have issues later on."
