Sony loves the Kinect comparison |
Listed in: PS3 Tags: playstation 3 updates, Sony

Fanboys may be overly passionate in expressing disdain for the competitor, but not Sony. According to PlayStation head Shuhei Yoshida, being continually compared to Microsoft's Kinect has got him feeling "lucky".
"[Ever] since we announced Move at E3 last year, I've always felt like we were lucky that Microsoft made such a big deal with Project Natal. In a broader sense, we are categorized as 'motion gaming' - if we were just doing Move, we wouldn't have had as much coverage and attention from media and consumers."
he furthered, "Because you have Kinect versus move, or Natal versus Motion Controller... I've always felt that that helps to convey our message in terms of what's unique about Move. In our mind, from the beginning, we clearly understood the difference between what Microsoft is trying to do and what we have been doing. I feel like it's a great thing, to have the Kinect versus Move versus Wii comparison."

Actually good? haha! sure its more responsive than the Wii but what use is that when all the games suck! its just wii sports plus with ugly looking characters and no art style.
Also Sony have no worthwhile characters or IPs they can use this "new" technology with while Nintendo have all thier mascots and are always come up with new and fun ways to make use of the motion control.
Games... another reason why the PS3 and Move fall flat on thier face! its because they have none worth buying.

Just sayin'.
That, or Heavy Rain, Flower, even Folklore.
Give it more than a whole few days from launch.

KZ3 has no recognizable characters? I guess Sackboy isn't very recognizable. He just beat the crap out of Mario and left him to bleed out in the street in 2008. PS3 has the strongest game library out of all 3 systems. That is just pure fact. It is written in stone by other devs comparing to the benchmarks Sony has put up.

ROFL yeah sure sackboy is great *rolls eyes* how many game copies has mario sold over 200 million! Super mario galaxy 2 has already outsold the entire lifetime sales of LBP, yeah mario is so dead -.-
Also LBP brags they have infinite game content but they don't tell you that the gameplay grows stale within 4 hours and more than half of the used PS3 games at my local stores are just stacked with LBP which proves people are sick of it and selling it off.
KZ3 has no nobody interesting just some dude constantly shouting "SEV! SEV!".
PS3 only has the highest library rating because it has less games on it overall than the wii and 360. If the PS3 games had more games on it i can guarantee you that its library rating will go down, even 1 bad/mediocre game can bring down a library score.

In any point, technology progresses with time being that it has to copy and improve currently existing technology. If your not a fan of that then I suggest you become amish instead of complaining about something you use daily. It really makes you look quite stupid.

I don't see you bitching about the touch screen on the DS being ripped off from the Game.com

I thought the touch screen of the DS was a rip off of the Palm Pilot... Or maybe a rip off of ATMs...

wii has camera in controller and stationary sensor. move is the opposite.
kinect is just the camera. i personally play games in the dark a lot, i would much rather go with wii or move for that reason alone but in terms of games, HD, etc. move wins hands down imho. my wii collects dust, my 360 collects dust, no fan boy of sony/microsoft/nintendo just saying.

Why would you compare a motion controller with a controller-less accessory?
Wouldn't it be better to compare it to Le Stick nah.. Wiimote would be better for the comparison.
It's the same as comparison an apple to an orange, tastes good but not the same.

NOTE: I am not a sony fanboy, I'm not pulling this out of my ass, here's the proof of a Move like game on PS2

I'm going to wait for PS Move to lower the price down, because for the same or approx price the Wii is there (wouldn't care if it's used).

Specifically, the way they do it is completely different. With the Wii, you have the sensor bar. This is, in fact, a misnomer. The bar doesn't sense anything at all. It provides two IR light sources that the controller sees. Any other IR source (i.e. direct sunlight on the wall behind the TV, a light right next to the TV, etc) confuses the Wiimote. In theory, because all OEM sensor bars are supposed to be made equal, the Wiimote should be able to tell distance by how far apart the IR light dots are. For some reason this doesn't really work in practice. Might be lack of functions in the software...
With Move, you have a camera that knows how big the glowing ball on the Move controller is. Based on how large the ball looks to the camera the system is able to get a very good idea of how far away the controller is. The software (presumably the OS level driver, but I don't know enough of the details to be sure, might just be a library in the SDK) adjusts the color of the ball to find a suitable contrast with the rest of the background. Not to say that this is perfect, but certainly much more forgiving than the Wiimote.
Back to Move vs Kinect, even more specifically EyeToy vs Kinect. From what I've been able to glean, Kinect is more than just a camera. There is a radar-like sensor that is part of the system (based on so called "depth-sensitive cameras" originally developed for ballistic missile systems, tho I'm not sure if for navigation or final targeting). This allows the system to map in 3D what is in front of it, much like a topographic map. I would be quite interested to see if it is accurate and detailed enough to read sign language. That being said, I agree with the spirit of what is being said by Sony about buttons being an important part of the gaming UI equation.

There is also nothing to stop Microsoft releasing a cut-down pad of some sort. So with Kinect buttons are optional, there are games you can do with Kinect that can't be done with Move.
The dancing games for a start where they actually see what you are doing without problems from furniature and lighting, something a camera alone cannot do (as evidences from Eyetoy as it NEVER worked for me).
I agree both systems have their own advtanges/disadvantages, but Kinect is the one that is offering something new rather than a "me too" - though I do hope Move get some support, I have been waiting to play a shooter in HD with light gun quality controls since the Wii came out.

Whether fanboys can deal with it or not - the world is talking about Kinect, not the Wii-2/plus/whatever from Sony.
People don't play with their Wii anymore - so why would anyone care about a far more expensive version of something they've already grown tired of?

I bought Sports championship, along with two move controllers (Separately on Saturday a day after launch for 79ukp after a bit of shopping around).
It's a pretty good game for the 23ukp price. Good fun well presented, ideal for two, but surprisingly good single player as well. As well as perfectly following my hand movements (motion controller), it also follows your body movement, e.g running round the room. Got a respectable 75 on metacritic. Tried most of the move demo downloads from the store and think a got the best of the bunch so far.
Also quite liked ubisofts racket sports, though not quite as well presented. Tumble is good fun, but equally frustrating, so not sure is but that from the PSN.
I hated playing various mates wins but I like what I see so far with Move. I think its the accuracy combined with the Hd visuals. Looking forward to the free heavy rain update in a few days.. I think the Wii has a successor. Lets see how long it is till Microsoft come up with some physical UI add on for Kinnect.

Are those games better than multi-platform or 360 exclusives? Some people might think so, but I have my doubts.
I thought Heavy Rain was a dreadful game with barely any gameplay at all. The story also was boring and had me hating the main character as he was an idiot, yet were I supposed to feel sorry for him?
Alan Wake on the other hand might not be as pretty, but its a far better game. This is often what happens on Playstation, they spend too much time making the game pretty and not enough making it a good game.
Same goes from Gran Turismo, some people love it but its vastly overrated IMO. I wanted to like it, but it bored me as the AI just felt flat and lifeless. I know many long term fans who were fed up with GT4 as the AI seemed little improved since GT1, they spent too much time on the graphics. Hopefully GT5 will fix that.
In fact, the Wii has more exclusives I love than the PS3 does. So bottom line, don't forget its all personal opinion. Some of us couldn't care less about most of the PS3 exclusives, most of my favourite games are 360 exclusives or multi-platform.
