Sony introduces Playstation Network Ticket for credit-less Japanese |
Ó
If you're one of those teenagers or adults who have a PS3 and money but don't have a credit card, you're in luck. Through the powers of online translation services, we've recently found out that Sony will be selling something called the PlayStation Network Ticket, a new form of virtual currency you can use with the PSN to buy your favorite games and online goodies.
From our understanding of the new press release they have, the PlayStation Network Tickets use an EDY system native to Japan. This means two things: that these new smart cards for PlayStation Network purchases will probably remain limited to Japan for a little while, and that if our understanding of the EDY system is accurate, will require a EDY reader that's compatible with PlayStation 3 to work. Nice enough if you know the tech, we suppose, but it'd be even better if there was a friendlier American and European version too.
The PlayStation Network Ticket will sell in 52,000 locations across Japan come June, focusing mostly on convenience stores, post offices, and ATMs. The tickets will carry ¥1000, ¥3,000, ¥5,000, and ¥10,000 denominations.

this is a good idea, did sony think that everyone that purchased a ps3 also owns a credit card? must make this worldwide!
Finally, they're releasing them blasted thought they been doing this since the launch oh well!! perpaid credit cards work for me
They can just send the bill to your virtual apartment in playstation home lol.
Yeah I can see it now, walking outside your HOME apartment to your virtual mailbox and pulling out your virtual mail with a bill from Sony to pay or you don't exist. lol! Sony the virtual government. lol!
Yeah make this world wide, I dont want to change my freaking bank because I cant buy from Ps store with my credit card! We want to buy things from the PS store so make it bossible!
funny, i just went and picked up a mastercard gift card at a convience store. worked fine for me.
Gift giving is the lifeblood of the gift card. It's inferior to the credit card, but people will buy it or rather, they will be bought to be distributed elsewhere. You've all heard the saying, "It's the thought that counts." People are willing to sacrifice versatility in a gift for that thought.
watch australia will get it like next year while the rest of the world will already have it...
no love for Australians ROFL
edy is a prepaid/postpaid service in japan much like a regular credit card but can easily load money unto it on convenience stores such as 7-11 ministop etc.
yes it does allows even kids to have these. its compatible with PSN a few months ago ever since 1.5FW or older maybe. you can either just input your credentials on the EDY tab on PS3 XMB or buy an EDY card reader for PS3. badly enough i dont have this yet and i cant read japanese, im so sad i think im gonna cry, i want tekken 5 DR HD and lemmings HD so bad. oh and when SSF2THDR comes out, im applying for an EDY, gonna bug my japanese speaking aunt about it. HEY SONY PLEASE RELEASE THE PSN PREPAID CARD like nintendo does so kids and no-crediat-card-people can buy on PSN, EASILY.
