As an update to our earlier article about the confirmed tie-up between Xfire and Sony Online Entertainment (SOE), Sony once again affirmed us that Xfire features will be integrated into the action-RPG Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom ONLY and not into the PS3 console itself.

During a press event in California, Sony said that Dark Kingdom is set to be launched (along with the console of course) with Xfire's friend tracking and chat services, both of which will allow players to see when their friends are also playing Dark Kingdom and chat with them whether they're playing the game on their PC or PS3.

When connected to the internet, PS3 users will be able to access Xfire from the front end of Dark Kingdom, and after logging in, they will receive notifications when their friends have also logged in to the Xfire network. As mentioned, Xfire services in Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom will be cross-platform, which means that friends can chat with each other whether they're on a PS3 or PC.

Xfire also announced at the same event that they have already received a PS3 Tools and Middleware Development and License Agreement from Sony, which will allow Xfire to create an SDK for PS3 game developers. And as you guys probably know already, Xfire is totally free, all you need is an internet connection. With online multiplayer gameplay and online services, Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom is definitely one title that would-be PS3 owners should look out for (and buy!) come November, when the PS3 is launched, along with the game.

"Xfire also announced at the same event that they have already received a PS3 Tools and Middleware Development and License Agreement from Sony, which will allow Xfire to create an SDK for PS3 game developers."

So this means we'll be seeing more of Xfire for other PS3 games too. Though it's not directly integrated into the PS3.

I mean, the ps3 will already have something like that and game spy arcade is also a bit like that.

The only good thing is if you have this game, before starting your console, if you're on the PC on msn, you can just start xfire, check who's online on untold and ask them if they wanna team up for a game, then if they say yes you just put your ps3 on and connect with them, maybe that's cool, maybe not, I mean, it's not like I won't play if my firends are not online :S.

but it's also cool because console players can chat with the people on their PC, the best would have been msn, xbox 360 is gay because it not even support winXp...

YOu guys forgot to mention that any game deceloper can use X-Fire for their games if they want to, however it is not a key feature of the PS3 which is basicly the same thing most games have downloadable content so I'm sure the top games will add the feature later on :D

don't know if i'm reading this correctly, but the way i see it, games with ps3/pc connectivity will probably be running xfire, while ps3/ps3 connectivity will be the playstation network platform.

i dunno, it makes sense, but is it not possible to get ps3/pc connectivity without xfire?
