Sony has released an official statement acknowledging the problems new users have been experiencing in PlayStation Home. It's not very comforting, but at least it's something. In a nutshell, they said they're working on it. Here's the full statement:
We are aware that some people may be experiencing difficulty in accessing the PlayStation Home beta at present. This is due to overwhelming demand for the service as people access Home for the very first time since it became Open Beta and appeared on the XMB.
While we prepare solutions to ease the problem, you may continue to experience difficulties accessing Home. We kindly ask for your patience as we work to meet the incredible demand for this revolutionary service.
It's too bad that Home's opening was marred by problems, but hopefully it doesn't ruin people's hopes for it. But then if years of delays weren't enough to do that, surely a few bugs won't.

lets start off with what they took away...
they took away picture frames, psp menu, a few arcade games, some clothing, quite a bit of furniture, freedom of the movie theater, the first central plaza, the second central plaza, the all in one area (no "please download" areas), and the much easyer camera angles of furniture and player.
now lets see what they added (that is currently in the beta)...
they have added public music, better character detail creation, saving/loading of characters, mall area to buy stuff, phoneing one friend, a 3rd central plaza, fix to bowling, new arcade, groups, new outside mini games, a map system, less lag and overall fix to glitches.
what we all still expect though is...
a real personal home were we can upload video, music, and pictures to show/listen (much like that of a invite only chat room, but limited to files instead of a camera), muscular look for characters, more free items for the starting home and character, a uni central game launching system that eliminates all need to go through the entire game and online agreements just to meet up with friends, personal pets, more interaction in personal homes, 5 way conferance over the phone feature, private speak to friends only, quick reference for e motions (like that of LBP), color selection for nearly all items, lip syncing of characters, and the incorparation of our trophys.
