Sony funding 'about 40' downloadable titles for PS3 |
Ó
We love blogs because they give people a chance to voice their opinions on things and allow much easier updating of content, therefore getting the news to you quicker compared to a conventional website; this is why QJ - being a blog - has so much content. Now, the growing popularity of blogs is helping PS3 fans.
Semi-official Sony blog "Three Speech" has an interview with the notorious Vice President of Sony Computer Entertainment, Phil Harrison. As always, Harrison was happy to give all the budding gamers out there a taste of what is to come, with the PS3 launch coming this month (just over two weeks left!), stating that Sony is funding "about 40" download titles for the PS3.
Harrison explains, "We announced an initiative from a worldwide studios perspective at GDC this year... as a call to action to the development community to encourage them to create games specifically for us, that we would fund, that we would publish, in the online sense of the word, and distribute online." He further stated, "WeÂ’re developing about 40 products that fit that strategy right now. We showed the very first one of those, called flOw, at the Tokyo Game Show for the first time. That got a really, really good response."
Without all that fancy Sony-speak, the point of Harrison's claims seems to be that the market for downloadable games is expanding, an Sony is ready to support this, paying for around 40 games to be developed as downloadable titles already. The success of the Xbox Live system has probably prompted more development in the only game sector, but PS3 gamers could be seeing even more than a version of Lumines on their console. Harrison shares, "we've seen on other systems tend to be retro 2D games, and we're pushing the 3D capabilities of the PlayStation 3."
Fully-featured 3D games on download for your PS3? It may sound too good to be true but it is the future. Expect more details on this to emerge after the launch of the PS3 on November 17.

Microsoft had a bit of a headstart on this, and by the time ps3 is out the xbox will have some 3d games available online. i mean there are already some, but none are "pushing the xbox" by any means. i tend to like the 2d games as well, since they are absolute classics that otherwise you wouldnt be able to play being so old or in the arcades. its a very handy feature to be able to download games, and i hope the trend continues with ps3. (come on metal gear solid download ! )
