Sony "feeling good" about Blu-ray |
Ó
Don't be feeling blue about Blu-ray, because Sony certainly aren't. The revolutionary DVD format which stores up to 50GB of data on a standard disk (even more in some cases) is something essential to the PS3's success, with the PS3 essential to the success of the format in turn.It might not have the backing of the porn industry but the ever-growing Sony is confident that the robust DVD format will prevail, over HD-DVD. Sony's Chief financial officer Rob Wiesenthal, said "We are feeling really good about Blu-ray right now, but it is early days."
The cynics amongst you may believe that the 'early days' part of the statement refers to the teething problems the blu-ray format has had and the threat of other formats, but Wiesenthal carried on to say that,
In Japan, about 96% of the hardware being sold for high-definition format are coming from the Blu-ray family. It's a format with over 100 different CE manufacturers. Obviously we have the launch coming up in Europe for PS3. So we are feeling very good about that.
Stick that in your pipe and smoke it HD-DVD!

The 200GB is Quadra Layer,We are More Likely to see a Triple Layer 150GB Disc Commercially as the Cost of the Technology Falls With Mass-Production.
150GB Should be Enough to Cover Most of Our Needs for 10Years
Reply
Blu Ray is 25GB per layer, didn't you get the memo?

They can Improve the Amount of Storage Per Layer,as Toshiba Increased the Storage per Layer from 15GB to 17.5GB Without a n Increase in Cost...and toshiba did that Very Early, more Can Be done with Time
With Time and as the Technology is Further Mass-Produced and Gets Cheaper,More Storage can be Implemented per Layer Without a Significant Increase in Cost.

This 200GB crap is total PR bull*****. You might as well create a new format, they is no way current players can support it. I haven't even heard any news about a triple layer BR disc (75GB), I doubt it can be done else Sony would of mentioned it by now to counter HD-DVD.

Also if what was said about blu ray support in Japan is actually true, it doen's mean sh*t in North America. Mini discs were very popular in Japan and never caught on here.

HD-dvd has more visually impressive movies. why would blue ray come out with chick flicks and dramas at lauch. mean while HD-DVD has constatine and other cool flicks to show off detail and color. blue ray doesnt even have final fantasy spirits within or advent children scheduled to release wtf?
