Sony denies PS3 delay in Europe...again

rumor alertIf at first you don't succeed at squashing a rumor, you can deny it again. That's what Europe">SCEE boss Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Boss">David Reeves just did. The rumor dates back to a few months ago and was even attributed to Sony prez Ken Kutaragi. This is the one where the PS3's European debut was pushed back from March 2007 to September.

If we are to believe Sony, that statement was about as accurate as reports of the presence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. But since some rumors are harder to kill than others... once and for all here is the latest denial from Reeves: "We're still on schedule to launch PS3 in March throughout the PAL territories. All speculation otherwise is without foundation."

Still skeptical? Wedbush Morgan, a company who makes it their business to check what other companies are up to, says Sony is probably telling the truth. "The logic behind a March European launch was that demand would subside in the US sufficiently to allow Sony to divert supply to Europe."

Now someone please get a shovel and bury this dead rumor before it starts to stink. Wait! What if the demand for PS3 does not taper off? Oh, well they can always delay it again. But for now March is still officially the European PS3 D-Day.

They've done this before...

Remember the PSP launch? Yeah, we were supposed to get it in march, if I remember correctly, then they pushed the launch back to september.

!

no doubt it'll be at the end of March (almost April) if on time at all - launch numbers will be low here (NZ) so it gonna be like a mini launch anyway.

....

Well, you gotta give Sony some slack right now. Like look their facing major $$$ problems, and need to get back on track. realy what sony should be doin is promoting in the lower countries, for example Canada. Sony at the moment is not in the PS world at 100%, more like 34% and the rest with Sony inc. And i hate when they state Sony did this, Sony did that. Well being a panasonic promoter, as i am, Sony is not to blame but the chief of board! So cut them some slack ey!

depends on ps3 production

The Japanense are known for looking after themselves. I suspect Sony are rueing the day they stating launch dates outside of Japan. They should have just launched at home, and when that market was met and stock ready, go outside. Something like what they used to do the original playstation and for psp addons now (as a few examples). It all depends on whether they are making 200k or 1M a month. That's the decider. Now we have not heard any recent bravado regarding production rates so I suspect they have not ramped up yet. Is one million a month realistic? As seen taken apart the PS3 has been likened to high end server equipment, so maybe the production is not high. If production remains at 200K I'm certain that any march launches will be token at best, far worse than US sillyness. Why? Because they are currently going full tit for Jap and US customers. I Suspect that some boss will be demanding Japanese market be met first. And the launch is for the rest of the world, not just europe == us. The Japanese have this nasty habit of 'saving face', they will most likely just remain quite and what comes comes. So it's probably another 6 months. Forget about it, put your energies into something else, learn a language.

It'll be ready for launch

Sony couldn't sell 1 million consoles per month, the system is too expensive for a mass market. I predict that they will launch in Europe in March (as long as they have all the PAL issues sorted) because sales for the console in Japan + USA will have greatly cooled down. Any delay would be caused by hardware issues not production issues. Not many people really want a PS3 at the moment, only you suckers :D

jkjk

WHo cares about Europe anyway they suck
by Spector - 2006-12-14 09:25:52
not really

If you don't think Sony will sell 1 million consoles per month you just show how really blind you are. "too expensive for mass market" that's the reason like high end HDTV companies who pretty much just make those can stay in business. There are mass markets for more expensive items already, so your little pseudo-economics aren't going to make any sense here. Not many people want a PS3 at the moment. Have you just not been outside lately or is your head just in the sand?

Wrong

Its not Europe that sucks - you suck

... wtf

"promoting in the lower countries, for example Canada" Lower countries - hmm... I hope that you are saying lower population. We're higher in our standard of living than the US. The system is sold out here too. So, what exactly are you trying to say? Miss-informed, mal-worded comments get taken the wrong way dude

Never ceases to amaze me...

Why do so many people want to be haters or something they do not know - and then, not even log in so that they can take the heat for what they say. Wow, you're another loser.
