It looks like things are heating up in the holiday phase of the next-gen console wars. Sony Corporation CEO Howard Stringer has reported that sales of Sony's Playstation 3 game console have more than doubled since the company decided to slash the 80GB PS3 model's price by US$ 100 and offered an alternative 40GB PS3 model. According to Mr. Stringer, the sales boost (having effectively reached 100,000 during the week after November 11) was the breakthrough that the company had been awaiting since PS3's launch. Mr. Stringer also said that Sony is poised to benefit from the reported shortage in the supply of Nintendo Wiis.
As the next-gen console wars are far from over, time will tell whether Sony will be able to meet or exceed the glory of the Playstation 3's hardware predecessors.

No but anyway, it's not hard to understand why a price drop boost sales, lol. I bought mine because of the price drop (80g model). They even gave me a free remote + Lair (and motorstorm was in the box), so I got a PS3 80g, a remote, Lair, and motorstorm, for 499$, lol. That's a good offer I think. And now the x360 premium and the 40g ps3 (wich have mor or equal things to compare with the x360 premium, the 80g ps3 compare to elite x360) are the same price, and the 80g ps3 and the elite x360 are the same price, so it's gonna be a BIG clash of powers!
