Sony CEO Howard Stringer has responded to threats from Activision CEO Bobby Kotick, dismissing them as "noise."

"He likes to make a lot of noise," Stringer said during the Allen & Co conference in Sun Valley, Idaho. "He's putting pressure on me and I'm putting pressure on him. That's the nature of business."

Kotick said last month that if Sony doesn't institute a price cut for the PlayStation 3 console, Activision may pull out support for it as well as the PSP. Other publishers like Koei Tecmo have also been asking for a PS3 price cut, only in more polite terms.

The Activision guy fails at intimidation. If they dropped support for PS3, the only thing that'd happen is Activision losing even more money.

» I dunno about the prices in America but....

Activision are seriously taking the piss!

Modern Warfare 2 RRP at £55?

DJ Hero RRP at £107 (which looks somehwat of a plastic turntable)

Even when GH3 came out i thought £70 was rather high...

Seriously...PS3 at £279 is worth the value for what you get.

I agree that Activision has gone crazy. However the PS3 is way over priced. Every console system has dropped in price every 6 months or so... Except the Wii, which is dirt cheap because its a gamecube on 'roids, and the PS3, because Sony makes bad decisions. The PS3 still hasn't recovered from the horrible launch.

Also, my friend thought PS3 was wonderful... for 3 months and then it would only play PS2 games but not load PS3 games. Sony admitted to him that it was a design fault occuring in "a small number of units" but still refused to fix it without him buying an extended warranty for a couple hundred dollars...

PS3's been the best value console I've ever bought when considering how much use I've got from mine since I've bought it.

Its a disk reading error that happens to arround 1% of PS3's. Sony wouldn't repair it for free because either his warranty had been voided or ran out. They fix it for 150 AU bucks aswell anyway.

On the other not PS3 is probably the best value console out there. A typical entry level blu-ray player costs around 500 bucks. The PS3 is quite a middle range blu-ray player at 688 bucks (AUD) and is firmware upgradeable.

It has unlike the 360 free online, built in wi-fi, built in rechargeable batteries, bluetooth and a lot of other things. It also has the best library of exclusives. I may say the PS3 is recovering as in most countries except north america the PS3 outsells the 360. America is the biggest problem witht he PS3 though. To me the PS3 is worth the cash and I haven't regreted my purchase!
