Foxconn certified by Sony to make PS3 units - Image 1This one goes way back. You might have forgotten about this already but the PlayStation 3 (PS3) consoles are being built by Asustek Computers. It was actually a fitting choice for Sony, as the former is regarded as one of the biggest computer components producers in the world.

Back then however, Foxconn Electronics, which also helped making some of the console's key components, somehow took a back seat as it was not given any allocation assignments. The reports mentioned that Foxconn will start producing units when the demand eventually rises.

Well, the long wait for Foxconn is finally over as Sony just handed a production certification to the Taiwan-based component developer. The reports added that Foxconn's contract will begin during Q3 and Q4 2007, in anticipation of the upcoming peak season this fall.

Foxconn Electronics was founded in 1970 and started as a manufacturer of plastic products, most notably connectors. Today, it services various products like motherboards, graphic cards, and even PS3 rival consoles Xbox 360 and Wii.

Iremember reading about this

Well I think it's a smart move by Sony since they have some pretty big titles coming up not to mention the holiday season.

although

Maybe they should've had them doing it from the get go and maybe they could've had their worldwide launch.

I totally agree...

With the holiday season, the big guns coming, and blu-ray + HD TV demand a growing market, it should be a big hit this winter.

lol

I'm glad i bought my PS3 early now.. Foxconn makes the xflop360 and its totally crap XD Prepare to see people *****ing about failing motherboards even more now. It's common knowledge in the pc world that you avoid foxconn as they create some of the cheapest crap in the known universe... very bad news if you ask me.. very bad. Probably why the ps3 will drop in price because the component will be *****z..

I heard

Sony pays Foxconn to make some of the 360 motherboards defective. All the other components of the 360 are top notch quality because they come from other companies.

.

What if the new PS3 releases are crap? I know some people have no problem buying it with no games, but the mainstream will need some decent exclusive games to change their mind. Will the sales trickle and force sony to lower the price to dump all the unsold stock? This I got to see

put Santa in the poor house

I have one, but $600 is quite a lot for Santa Claus to just drop down your chimney. I bought mine with my own money, but I don't know anyone who's parents buy them $600 christmas/hannuka presents.

to Mr. Sony commets -my new ps3 product

You are a racist and should crawl back into your hole in the mountain, you poor hick. Get a job like and make billion like me and so you can afford a PS3. You wish you have a PS3 like Mr. Common Sense calm to.
by - 2007-04-12 05:03:45
That doesn't sound like Mr. Gates!

No, I don't wish I had a PS3. I prefer game consoles to movie players. I already have a nice movie player. I would rather have anything else in the world other than a POS3. If I really wanted a blu gay player, I would buy them when they go to the bargain bin in 2 years for $50. HD-DVD is making a comeback anyway, and I hope they win. That will teach sony a lesson.
