Sony Australia: Over 20,000 PlayStation 3 units sold |

According to reports from Australia, Sony's PlayStation 3 enjoyed sales of over 20,000 units since its launch last Friday, March 23. "The combined sales of hardware, peripherals and software generated in excess of AU$25 million (USD 20.2 million) of retail spending," Sony Computer of Entertainment announced with regards to the console's earning in the region.Breaking down this 25 million into its separate components, we find that roughly AU$ 20 million (US$ 16.1 million) is accredited to the 20,000-plus PS3 consoles, with AU$ 5 million (US$ 4 million) being attributed to sales of related software (video games and Blu-ray movies), and accessories (controllers, keyboards, HDMI cables, etc). The PS3 costs AU$ 999.95 (US$ 810), with first-party games priced at AU$ 99.95 (US$ 81) each.
On a similar bit of good news, it was earlier reported that the PlayStation 3 broke previous sales records in the UK as it hit over 165,000 sales - a good 75 percent of the 220,000 PS3 units allocated to the region.

Didn't sony also report the launch ceremony in Sydney was a success? Despite only having about 80 sales and having more employees than customers? If this report is true (remember it comes from sony,) then there's only one explanation: The die hard fans had to wait so long and supplies are so plentiful most have bought theirs soon after launch. There might be a few good weeks of sales, then it will be back to mediocre sales like the US.
Do us all a favor and go play your 360. Even though, given the amount of time you spend posting on this blog I seriously doubt you even have one. Heres a link showing a side by comparison of sales for both consoles by month. In four months the ps3 has outsold what the 360 did in four months. Its not by a lot but dont forget the ps3 just launched in the rest of the world too, so expect to see a marginal jump in numbers. that was pretty funny.
sony isnt doing the best but they are hanging on. the ps3 has already passed the 360 in japan, and its starting faster then the wii in the uk. and the wii is selling faster then the 360 in the uk. so this means that sony will soon have the 360 beat in 2 places. now all sony has to do is win the hearts of the people in the u.s. (what will you buy..... a Nissan skyline(ps3) or a ford ltd(xbox360).
Once everybody has theirs, the sales will nosedive, guaranteed.
Sure they sold 165K. But every console has always sold out at launch, they shipped 220k. IF the sales numbers at launch dont equal shipped, its a big sign of lack of demand and a huge slump in sales it to be expected. Analyze things objectivly, and you wount get caught buying into PR spin campains. Im really think now, i wont be getting a PS3, becasue marketing 101 says this is bad, bad news. Sonys just trying to save face.
I will buy the system with the most "cool" games that can be palyed on-line with voice communication and universal account that allows me to play with friends whenever I want. That said, PS3 has one game (Resistance)...XBOX has CoD2 CoD3 Vegas Gow Crackdown PGR3 and on and on...
