Sony answers Gibson

PS3 at TGSSony Computer Entertainment was quick to issue a rebuttal of the reports filed by Macquarie Securities' David Gibson. The analyst claimed a number of PS3s during the TGS suffered problems because of overheating issues. SCE on the other hand, says the report is incorrect.

"SCE can categorically deny that there's any problems with PS3 units overheating," according to a statement released by Sony Europe. The company has been suffering from low shares due to the string of bad publicity that the PS3 is getting. It will be remembered that the Europe launch for the console was pushed to March of 2007. It was originally expected to come out later this year. Also, the overheating problems were fuelled by the recent recall of lithium ion batteries.

Regardless, the statement then continues, "As could be seen on the TGS floor by the tens of thousands of media and public attendees, both the hardware and software worked flawlessly." Despite the rebuttal, one can't help but wonder just where Gibson got his report.
Besides, Macquarie Securities is not just any so-so company. In fact, it has one of the largest equities research and sales teams covering more than 700 stocks. We wonder who's telling the truth.

I didn't see even one video with TGS PS3 demo crashing.

Not even *****ing one.

The only report about PS3 problems came from Kikizo (*****ty blog that makes up bad press), and the only media was a picture of dude doing something with PS3.

If you can find any report about PS3 overheating at TGS, that doesn't come from Kikizo, then ok.

But how is that all those big sites like Gamespot, IGN, 1up had hands on time with most of PS3 games on TGS, and seen them running for hours, and didn't report ANY problem? Oh yeah, there's an easy answer to that: THERE WERE NO *****ING PROBLEMS AT ALL.

# Games based on movies (Vise Versa)!imkro 2006-10-04 08:37
As most of you know, the new X-Men movie was released on DVD; and the movie suddenly reminded me of the relationship between ‘games and violence’ which is a hot issue among many people nowadays. Have you thought about this issue from this perspective yet? Most criminals, thugs and gangs in the movies are whites! Surprised? Antagonists in these X-Men movies are all whites. How about Spidey? Superman? Batman? Even the bad guy and his girlfriend in the Incredibles are whites.

Anyway, the true point of this comment is the following. These movie-licensed games often have ridiculous and long names. ‘Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie’, ‘Superman Returns: The Videogame’, ‘Peter Jackson's Halo 3: The Official Game of the Movie’ and more. If you’re a Halo fan, fear this news since all intellectual properties which have been appeared both in games and movies have been poor (there’re just so many examples).

imkro,

I think you posted in the wrong article buddy...this is an article about the PS# freezing and/or overheating.

Anyway, i don't think the ps3 crashed at all. As #3 said, the game sites like IGN would be on it like a fruit-fly and fruit.

What!!! Crashing my a$$

If the was a problem like that at TGS, all the PS3 hater will report it right away. It's really strange that it came at 1 week after.

Those stupid analysts are only try to make bad publicity. I think they put all there money on M$ share!

By the way did you remember the guy at SEGA said that the PS3 was on for 12hrs and the machine doesn't heat at all.

I think if there was such a problem all the dev. how hate sony would have speak sooner.

# GUNDAM gameGuest 2006-10-04 12:10
did you guys read about the Gundam game having some difficulties? The are some speculation that the problem might be the game or the system. I don't know if this person link that problem to his comment and just blow the news into proportion saying most PS3 crashed. Well that's true then that it would be all over the NEWS now right?

anyway, i have been posting for a few months here in this website. i don't know if you guys remember my name. but i'll go and attend that GAMERS DAY in San Francisco this coming Oct. 19. SONY METREON is just 5 blocks away from my work place. i will let you guys know if the rumor is correct or not. i just hope that the place won't be full pack :(....until then signing off somewhere.

i think its better to hear it from a gamer like me and from PS3 fans rather than coming from those haters.

heck, even the media said that SONY owned TGS. be suprised if the japanese consumers ridiculed the PS3 and said that its just hype. but every time i read an article it says "Sony Delivered...Sony Delivered"...and thats a fact.

I hope i can get my hands on those demo games that they have. I'll give my thought after Oct. 19

dam they just wont leave sony alone. people must know that M$ will lose because their trying to sabotage sonys launch. I think that M$ paid off some people to do that. and to all the Xbots, if you believe that your system is sooooooo great. then you should just wait till the ps3 comes out and then compair the 2 systems. then there wont be no more trash talk. I think that gibson is and angre xbot.

# Crashes and freezesVietone 2006-10-04 15:19
Crashing and Freezing are rarely hardware related.

Most of the time its the software sending invalid data to the ram or recieving invalid data and causing the system to crash.

Freezing however is almost NEVER hardware related. Whens the last time you played a game on a PC and it froze because of your video card, sound card, display. Never, its always been the drivers that cause the freezing.

Crashing is seldom hardware related. Since RAM is so vast and cheap, dont forget the cheap part, its almost always the reason for crashing. You buy what u paid for, if you choose to buy 2gb of ram thats 150 bucks, do you expect it to be as stable as 2gb of ram that cost 300+? I dont think so.

In the case of the PS3, i have no idea what brand they buy the RAM for but Japanese are known for creating very good parts. Its the parts that are made in China that have problems. Thats why alot of high end motherboards are using chemicon ( dont know the spelling) capacitors because they are the best and most stable capacitors you can buy, DFI and vouch for that.

Samsung is the wide leader in memory chips ina almost every device, whatever you use, samsung is linked to it no matter how you look at it. Of course they sell the better chips at higher prices and lower chips at prices that are considered a steal but they just dont perform at the high end of the performance curve.

So in terms of how hardware is these days. Memory is vital, the more stable it is the better your devices will be. In terms of the PS3, if it didnt crash on the TGS showfloor, it probably wont crash in your home.

All I can say is that when I was at the TGS this year, there was no PS3's overheating. That is just my point of view of the event. TGS was all Sony and other big two were just handing out bags or showing of a few smaller games.

# HMMM a non biased analyst or Sonys WordBigperm 2006-10-05 04:38
Well IMHO, i trust a non biased Analysts word, or recomendation over Sonys. Now whos to say if he has a bias, but with Sonys track record, i dont know if i can really beleve anything they say, claim etc.

And again Vietone, can it. You failed at trying to sound smart. And your first and last coments are huge contradictions of each other. And the rest of your post has no bearing on the Ps3 what so ever. The only thing coherant in your reply is that you dislike Chinese electronics. Your PS3 will come out, and you and your PS3 can live happily ever after.

# Perhaps bias is the answerDysfunctionill 2006-10-05 09:28
Perhaps this guy did see a minor problem with a console, and was also maybe not Sony's biggest fan thus he saw a different set of events than did every1 else. Simaliarly 11 seems to suggest that microsofts presence was only to show a couple of small games, but Gears Of War is slated to be one of the biggest titles on any system this year - People see what they want to see!!!!
