Sony: a million Move controllers shipped to North America

psmove Sony said they weren't expecting huge launch numbers for PlayStation Move, counting on word-of-mouth marketing instead to sell their new motion wand. Apparently, they didn't need to. Move reportedly moved about 1.5 million units in Europe, so much that SCEE needed to ramp up production to meet the strong demand. For North America? It's pretty much the same story.

SCEA reports that they have shipped "over one million units" of the PlayStation Move in its first 30 days of availability. That's a different story from actually selling them to consumers, but there are still some retailers who could actually say their stock dwindled with the demand - Walmart and BestBuy among them. That "rapid adoption", according to Sony, is indicative of "widespread consumer interest" in wireless motion wands.

Jack Tretton, SCEA CEO, told Reuters that demand has been "strong" and that it "is easily outstripping supply."

Sony hasn't provided specific numbers on how much they've actually sold, and with the NPD no longer providing numbers on their regular sales charts, we'll have to wait a while for the digits to surface.

Maybe it's a wii ripoff, but it's what people wanted. Nintendo had all the time it needed to pop their own HD-wii but more "hardcore gamers" but it's not their style of games. Can we really blame sony for copying nintendo? I mean, hardcore gamers would never have had the chance to play their games with a motion controller. That's the plan, HD graphics, blood and gore, using a kind of playstation version of the wii-mote, the move. I hope it does well. I also hope the M$ kinect will do pretty well too, so sony could take an idea or two from them, e.g.: "xbox pause" for movies, lol. [playstation pause]. (I won't buy kinect, but I'll surely buy the move one day).

you can say that about every system then... it all starts somewhere, and someone will take it and make it better... every one basical take the systems from the other companies and tries to see one can be done better... so dont hate unless you actually own both... as for me... i like my wii... but this is something PS3 was able to do better then wii...

Sony did not rip off Nintendo.

They were already working on PS Move back on the PS2 days, but Nintendo released it first and was a success.

Before Sony and Nintendo, there was Le Stick, a motion controller for an Atari console, but had no support.

So, Nck90, don't be a freaking moron, and know what you spit.

I want to buy a PS Move too, but I think that'll be on xmas.
