Sonic The Hedgehog, Hey It's Tails!

These new screens of Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog for PS3 and 360 would make me feel a lot better if they erased my memory of the awful demo that went up on the Live Marketplace yesterday. The demo, though short in nature piled on the pain with a poorly designed, uber slow and unwieldy camera, iffy controls and frankly questionable level design. It seems the time has finally come to put the blue badass out to pasture, at least for a little while... but hey, look, it's Tails! Everyone loves Tails right!?

» demo or not..

demo or not.. a demo is ment to impress and excite people for the game to come. its a strong indication of what the final product may be.

thing is.. that this is the direction sonic games have been taking lately. the horrid camera and level designs were almost as bad on shadow the hedgehog.

the thing is.. sonic doesnt belong in this kind of 3d.

sonic has and aways will be about blazing through a level. and you cant really do that so much when you have 3d platforming to jump through and be careful about.

Sonic should stick to a straight track in a 2.5d type view if they want sonic games to be good.

This is why the recent GBA and DS games are 1000X better then all the 3d console versions.

(same goes for castlevania games BTW! just freaking STOP MAKING 3d GAMES THAT DONT WORK!!!)

» ........................and nobody likes tails

*****k that *****, the demo wasn't spectacular but it wasn't bad. The camera moved slow so that it could follow Sonic better, the camera was the best it has been in 3-D. The controls were a little iffy but it was a fun but short demo that it pretty good example of how sonic should be with a little tweaking. Play it a couple more times and then we'll see if you still think it's that bad. It just needs a little getting used to.

» Agreed.

I totally agree with your assessment of the demo. The great Sonic games of old never had too many levels where falling off the map was much of a danger - this demo level was all about that and sparse on enemies. And of course the camera - surely they've noticed it sucks???

Hopefully it'll improve in the time before it launches.

» Wheres your skill

if not for the camera and having to aim the homing attack sonic games would be all to easy. Maybe its been to long but if you remember, youll remember the off screen spikes, badly placed baddies that are always in your way, and not to mention the occasional speed boost where the side scrolling cam cant keep up and you go off screen.

I for one never had a problem with the cam unless hugging a wall or a corner and the homing attack isnt suppose to be an easy 100% hit rate, even homing missles have to be aimed. you have 100 to 120 degree area where if you jump you have a high chance of hitting with the homing attack, the further out of range you are the less chand you have of hitting. Also its about timing as well, going full speed and timing your attack to late will put you over your target. Get some skill people and stop complaining about the homing attack, if you miss its your own fault for not being able to figure out that its not a sure hit everytime and you do have to aim it.

» Uhhhhhh

#8 If you remember Sonic was a side scrolling game too. This is not my friend. Nobody likes falling off the edge every 15 secs. And it seemed I was watching the game more than playing. Press B 2 times and watch a sequence, Press Y and oh look another sequence. Hey look at that eagle!!! Another sequence!!!!!! Nice graphics bad game.

Wth are you talking about... TAILS ROCKS. Tails has always been cool.

here here

their should be a tails only game

(but not like his game gear game tail's adventure)

something tht is like the old genesis games where you can choose tails but lvls more specific to tail's ability

or maybe a ds game where you control tail's flying by draggin him with the touch screen maybe :)

it could work :S

» E3 Demo

I would just like to put out there, that the Demo that just came out was actually the E3 demo. I remember seeing a video of the Level it contains, and the video was from E3.

Although the Demo was marginal at best, it doesn't have me too worried, because it's almost 4 months old. That's 4 months of polish it's lacking.

Of course, I'm a little biased, because I'm truly a Sonic (and a Sega) fanboy at heart.

I just thought I'd throw that out there though. I'll by this game pretty much under any circumstance, because, like I said, I love Sonic.

» Demo

actually the Demo on the marketplace is pre-E3 as the E3 demo contained more stuff. Why they decided to release this early build of the E3 demo I don't know.

» Forget Sonic?

Sonic is dated! Lack of gameplay!!! Sega is dead... (please dont hate me for it) & Will someone bring out some wicked games with some kind of gameplay over graphics??? New Ideas (respect to wii - but i think that will be a flop too?) sorry sega & nintendo

by aguycalleddave - 2006-09-30 00:55
» to everyone that said the words 'fall off' and 'edge'...

get a grip!

you obviously didn't practice. That's why its probably the first level. After playing it a few times, I never fell off the edge again and have been loving it ever since. If you didn't give up you'd know this too. The best bit is trying to beat your own speed record. Mine is 1:15:816

If you can get within 1:38:00 then you are quite good at it. Believe me when I say practice, and you will see how good this game really is. The only bad thing I could find was the analog stick sensitivity and the few millesecond delay when you tried to do a homing attack after homing attacking another enemy.
