Some details regarding that MGS4-X360 rumor |
Ó
Before you say that we're just adding volatile accelerants to the flame-bait, we're just doing our job here, which is to report things like this to you guys. Now on to the details. The nice folks over at Xboxic have managed to find Che Chou's post at NeoGAF. By the way, Che Chou is an ex-1UP staffer and developer at MicrosoftÂ’s Forza 2 team.
This is what he claims to be the real deal:
ItÂ’s simply a rumor that Konami higher-ups are pressuring Kojima Productions to consider making MGS4 a multiplatform game because production costs on the game are unsurprisingly high and only getting higher. With PS3 install base numbers not looking all that rosy due to console cost and manufacturing problems, Konami is scared they canÂ’t recoup their investment on only 1 platform alone.
ItÂ’s also a nice way to maybe blackmail Sony into giving Konami an incentive to keeping the game a PS3 exclusive, imo.
Whatever the case, I highly doubt itÂ’s going to happen so quit building yourself a disappointing kiloton bomb.
Well that should ease things a bit right? We guess we'll just have to wait for more news to break. For now all you MGS4-Sony zealots can relax and put down your pitchforks. Also, all you Xbox zealots will have have to curb anticipation, Snake's move to the "white-lime-green" (as opposed to "dark") side is even less certain now than when the rumor first broke.

Well, it's a good news and i'm anticipating to play this MSG4 on my great xbox 360 !!
If I read it correctly, I believe this rumor was total nonsense just to sell magazines. Kojima won't listen to Konami higher-ups just to earn more money. That wouldn't be very Kojima-like. So I think the odds of you playing it on your "great" XBox 360 are prtty much impossible.
it doesnt have to be "kojima like" konami is the boss either kojima eventually listens to them or he can enjoy his diminuative paycheck. i for one think mgs4 should go multi platform if they want to reach everyone.
sony fanboi
Sakura, no. Konami would never EVER fire kojima, he is one of their main sources of income; MGS, ZOE etc. And he won't listen to them. They told him theres no way he was gonna make MGS1 with a team of 15 people but he did a fine job didn't he?
Still seems like a toss up to me. Konami is still a company that needs to make a profit. And you can't do that without first making back what you spent. But it'd be cool to see MGS1 on PS3's on-line downloadables. Or 360's. I loved that game.
I don't think it will ever come to the 360, especialy if it ends up taking advantage of the bluray disk space. I'm not trying to stir up a flame war - i have a 360 and plan to get a ps3. I just can't see it happening.. there's more a chance of Halo3 on the ps3... which also will not happen (but who cares). If konami fired kojima, he would simply get funded by sony and become first party... am I right in thinking that kojima owns all the rights to the Metal Gear Solid franchise?
konami is fine they make mega bucks off of pro evolution soccer worldwide anyway
^^^ i agree with you
i agree with Kieran is what i meant to say
so like...an xbox website searched for a speculation from a xbox developer on a extremely biased forum?
If he leaves, he doesn't take it with him.
"due to console cost AND manufacturing problems"
Yeah the cost sure was a big issue. Thats why it sold out everywhere in a matter of hours...
well, if you care to read back at MGS4 news, Kojima said himself that the game would simply not work on a 360. He talks alot about the cell, watch the trailers! They always talk about the cell! It's been designed for the cell processor, it would not be an easy task to re-program it to work on different consoles... in fact, it would take so long it would probably cost loads more.
Besides, watch the trailers, I can detect some PSP connectivity... even if it was multi-platform, the PS3 version would shine about the rest.
I am sure you are correct on a few points there. However, I would much rather pay $60 to play it on my 360, then to spend ~$700 to not play it on my 360.
» Konami owns the franchise
If he leaves, he doesn't take it with him.
----
exactly, so if they fire kojima, he we have COMPLETELY NO RIGHTS in making ANY future MGS versions, because it's konami's =. So - Kojima fired = No more MGS by Kojima for PS3 only, yes pwnd. Now stfu
The only way they would fill up the extra blu ray space is with a lot of uncompressed HD video and very wasteful programming. That's not an issue. XBOX 360 still has plenty of storage. It will go multiplatform especially after disappointing PS3 sales. It's a very expensive game and they need to make their money.
I just ran across this which seems to be pretty interesting.
1UP: With your debut of the Tokyo Game Show Metal Gear Solid 4 trailer, which has seen wide distribution in both Japanese magazines, online, and in the U.S. Official PlayStation Magazine recently, it really heralded the dawn of the next-generation. Everything else has been polished and nice, but this was so powerful, so compelling you even had to do a real-time demonstration at TGS to prove it was running on PS3 hardware. That said, it makes you wonder how much of a gap there is between the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. Do you think you could create MGS4, technically, on 360 if you wanted to?
HK: Yes, that's technically possible. I want to express, first of all, it's not that I don't like Xbox or 360. It's just that last year, our hands were really tied to MGS3, so the other Konami developers were able to get their hands on the 360 tools and hardware earlier. But we simply didn't have time to do that last year. So, meaning that we were behind the other developers in terms of 360 development. Kojima Productions has this philosophy that we want to be the first in everything regarding new technology. So after we finished MGS3, the option was to work on the PS3 to try all the new things for Metal Gear Solid 4. The only reason for this is I'm the kind of person who wants to be the first person on the moon, and don't want to be asking "what the moon was like?" from other people. So that's the real story behind selecting PS3.
1UP: It's interesting that you think you could do this on 360, though.
HK: Maybe some nuance or a small details here and there might be different, but I feel that hardware is no longer a matter. I'm just talking about PS3, 360 and PC. Nintendo's Wii is totally different, but there are really no differences among the other three.
Kojima is a brilliant man. i can't believe i didn't see this before. let me explain:
what has Hideo Kojima been saying since MGS2? that's right, "This is my last Metal Gear." he's tired of the franchise and wants to stretch his creative legs.
now, fastforward to all this multiplatform talk concerning MGS4. Kojima has stated that the MGS series was birthed on the Playstation consoles, and he feels that it is a Playstation franchise, first and foremost.
this is where his ingenious plan kicks in:
investors are skittish about the PS3's potential, due to it's price, despite the fact that preorders sold out within minutes.
if Kojima sticks to his PS3 guns, refuses to make a multiplatform port, and Konami actually "fires" him (more like "promote" him to another job, as they don't really fire people in Japan), Kojima could make Kojima Productions independant, and, since he doesn't own the rights to the Metal Gear series, he can't take it with him and continue to make Metal Gear games, meaning he can work on the other ideas he's had in his head for ages, and finally put MGS behind him, something he's been trying to do since MGS2.
it's a brilliant plan. good for you, Kojima. you've worked on MGS long enough, you deserve a chance to flex your creative muscles on other projects. i can't wait.
and if MGS comes to the 360, sweet. i don't own a 360, nor want one yet, but MGS is a good series. a great series. and us Playstation fans can get Ninja Gaiden Sigma (possibly one of the best X Box titles along with KOTOR I and II), then we can at least share with them Metal Gear Solid 4. it's only fair.
even though it have psp connectivity that dont mean nothing since NOT everyone have a psp or will have mgs potable ops...so 360 owners will not be missing much...but there will definetly be some porting problems if they go through with it we would get the game like 1 year later
he wasnt really denying...the one thing i like is where he say i dont hate xbox or xbox 360. hheeyy if somebody dont hate you,you still got a chance..its a slim chance butt konami gotta make there $$$ so i hope they change their mind
why cant we just share..but sharing dont get the $$$$$$$$.i will wait till more exclusives games on ps3 to get it but if metal gear come to xbox i will get a ps3 in 2009 or something because i like shooters and xbox have a lot of them and the controller feel better to play them with
To be able to play MGS4 considering that MGS4 has more details and renders and parallels that the PS3 can handle and the 360 can't when the 360 only has 3 cores and the PS3 has 7 which can do more then the 360 can now thats what I call multitasking Intels chips Duo
Proccessors will never achieve such greatness of the power of the CELL considering they would have to pay alot of money if they want that kind of power into peoples computers and laptops.
