SOE spills DC Universe details

Justice league - Image 1Sony Online Entertainment has given out new details on its upcoming MMORPG DC Universe for the PC and the PlayStation 3. The game has no release window yet, but what we found out was pretty exciting.

As most of you may have expected, DC Universe will not have you playing as any specific DC hero or villain. What it will give you is a character whom you can customize, build, and assign powers to. This means you'll be unique instead of being one Batman out of thousands.

Powers can range from anything between elemental attacks to high-impact melee blows. Movement types can also be set if you want to be agile or flying. Your allegiance to good or evil, of course, can be set from the get-go.

According to the game's creative director Jim Lee, DC Universe is a hybrid between a first-person action game and a traditional MMORPG. You'll be leveling up, assigning stats, and collecting gear, but the action will be just as fast-paced as any console shooter.

It seems that DC characters will be something like bosses in this game. For instance, causing enough trouble in Gotham City will force the Caped Crusader to take you on. PvP and PvE battles will be constant, according to the devs. This one should be mayhem to the bones.

That's all the details we have for now on DC Universe. It's good to see that DC is finally stepping up to its Marvel counterparts when it comes to video games. They also have a fighting game coming up in the form of Midway's Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3). That one's another title to watch out for.

im glad SOE finally fully merged together with SCEA for games.

SOE is the best at wut they do and bringing it to the ps3? hellz yea sucka!

MMORPG'S & MMOFPS's are coming to the ps3 exclusively now,so HA!

i WISH,BEG,AND hope they will make a next-gen TRIBES game for the ps3.

if any one remember's,the first one on a console was on the ps2 and it was freakin sweet!.

it was accually the first or one of the first online game's for the consoles (dreamcast dont count). it released before socom though.

anyways: SOE rules and i cant wait for ALL of their up coming titles in store EXCLUSIVELY for the playstation 3.

instead of doing useless old comic why not just get into the korean mmo craze!

SOE will just be wasting time money effort resources on such fruitless characters on games, batman is the only DC character that have decent games and the rest flops at sales, even superman is a dork when it comes to videogame sales.

SOE should work in porting all those wonderful korean and japanese mmorpg's, we wanna see these titles on PSN

i know this will generate tons of income

Ragnarok Online 1 & 2

ROSE Online

RF Online

Rohan

Maple Story and tons more great titles.

or how about making an "armored core-esque" MMORPG

Comicbook based games have great potential. The problem with most of the games is that publishers tend to rush them thru production on the basis that the popularity of the character will sell the game alone.

As for this particular game, it seems to follow the unfortunate mold; I don't see it making a great mark.

# but the action will be just as fast-paced as any console shooteremcp 2008-06-29 06:00
he cant say that for sure

seeing the majority of it will be other users

the regular mmorpg fans would probably ruin it with their total boredom

anyway to the above comment,

those japanese cartoons are for sad grown men to watch

comic heroes almost everyone has watched when they were a kid

and yh BATMAN is the good one, LOL

anyway seems good

happy theyve finally done something like this

even then you can talk about the xplay hookup for SNES and genesis.

you cannot just discredit a system out of GP if it was the first out of box online console.... then it was the first out of box online console.

also on another perspective...... all the hub-bub over Halo... I always said they ripped off tribes
