Smooth operator: Tom Clancy's EndWar to be fully voice-activated |
Ó
Ubisoft dropped a couple of nuclear bombs about Tom Clancy's EndWar (PS3, 360) during the Ubidays conference. While dust is still settling from the apocalyptic mushroom clouds, the biggest confirmation we can clearly see is that the game gets full support for voice activation.
Yep. Turns out that the game - the console RTS game - can be played with a headset through and through. That's going to save you a couple of wrestling bouts with the controller. After all, most people would insist (quite adamantly, in fact) that RTSes are made only for the PC with its keyboard and mouse support. And so, we're guessing the voice-activated feature would prove useful for most. For those who really do want to hassle themselves with the controller, the option is still open - you can still play EndWar using a controller.
In the same press conference, Ubisoft also mentioned that the game will have a different camera scheme from that of other RTSes, and will be much like that of Madden - to quote EuroGamer: "looking over the shoulder of the player rather than at the head and back." More than this, we've yet to hear more updates as EndWar is to be, as a lot of people speculate, taking the spotlight of the Ubidays center stage.

The PS3 has keyboard and mouse functionality so if they wanted to the PS3 theoretically could be the same way.
You have to make so many actions in RTS games attempting to say them all would just be a chore. But IDK, I guess we'll see how it works out
Now thats something
this is just asking for trouble....
If it's any type of real RTS then a "macro" is need....and uber macro...to be uber....
I can't see the voice support being able to keep up with the stream of commands needed to even play a decent game of C+C3....
So, maybe this is what I would call a more "laid back" rts...where the speed of unit creation won't be so critical, as the actual movements of your units n such.....
Could be interesting.....could...
360 also has any usb keyboard functionality, I think you will find they dont like using it on consoles as a lot of people like they equal playing field of the gamepads and would put a lot of console owners off buying it.
And as Command and Conquer Tiberian wars 360 has shown (not available on PS3) the 360 pad is excellent even for this type of game if the devs do their part correctly.
