Slash slips: Guitar Hero Hendrix in the works?

Slash - Image 1Is Activision making a Guitar Hero Hendrix? This is new to our ears, actually. There has been no clue whatsoever of a Hendrix title - until Slash's interview with Rolling Stones, that is.

It started out innocuous enough. The rock n' roll magazine wanted to know who he'd like to see on Guitar Hero and if he feels more invested in the game because he was "the original guy". This was his reply:

Well, having the Aerosmith (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii) guys do it was very cool 'cause Aerosmith's one of the bands I was heavily influenced by. And Metallica's doing it, that's great. Those are the two ones that I think gives it some credibility. And they're doing a Hendrix one, which is great. (emphasis ours)

What was that he said? "They're doing a Hendrix one"? Well then that's definitely one good great reason to pick up Guitar Hero if you haven't yet. Although... we'd have to question if Slash meant the Guitar Hero World Tour project that was announced a couple of months back, where Jimi Hendrix tracks have been confirmed to be included. Or is this an entirely new title, like Metallica's and Aerosmith's?

We're definitely looking forward to a confirmation on this little Slash-slip anytime soon. And most certainly, we hope that Activision will do more than just include Hendrix tracks in a Guitar Hero title. We think good ol' Jimi having his own title will be just swell. What say you, Activision?

In the meantime, have some little Jimi Hendrix goodness with this Foxy Lady video. At least get an idea what kind of riffs you'll be up to if and when Guitar Hero Hendrix does come out. Spandex pants not included.

» good and bad

As a very big Jimi fan, i've been waiting on this for a long time, but there are some things that I will regret if this does happen. All of the kids today that think Jimi is good just because they heard he was, or only heard 2 of his most famous songs, will only play those songs. Also, there is going to be a lot of bandwaggoners now who will be claiming to be long time Jimi fans even though this will be the first time they heard many of his great songs.

» Well

"There has been no clue whatsoever of a Hendrix title "

but there has been news that the Hendrix Estate recently released rights to activision to allow them to use some of his songs, so you're not entirely correct there

I agree with flamingcowz, i hate it when i tell people i like Hendrix and the first thing they say is "yeah, purple haze", there are *****ing better songs than that >.

» yes

but those tracks were said to be for use in guitar hero world tour -- not for a solo hendrix title. and as for "sudden hendrix fans", i agree that a lot of them will be coming out now. but music is meant to be shared to everyone, anyway, and it's always good to have a new generation of music lovers gain access and appreciation to the classics. so it's still all good.

with Mabie. The newer generations need to learn to appreciate some real music, rather than the crap thats coming out these days.

Maybe it'll make em stop playing that utter drivel they're listening too currently and listen to a master.

I'm excited that Guitar Hero is finally getting us some actual HEROES ... bout time.
