SIXAXIS Rumble feature deep-sixed due to costs

Kaz HiraiIt has long been known that the Rumble feature is a bygone thing for the SIXAXIS controller. [insert collective sigh] But do we know the true reason why? Kazuo Hirai himself recently stated how the exile of the vibrating function came about. And to some raving fans, the excuse doesn't seem to be enough.

"If we have to come up with technology... to isolate the vibration from the sensing, if that means that the controllers are going to be so expensive, then we're doing the consumer a huge disservice by coming up with a controller that is not very affordable."

In short, they're cutting costs. Fine, we can accept that. Lots of companies want to cut costs. Actually, that's what companies generally want to do. The lower the price of the product, the more chance of sales in the market. So, if Sony wants to protect their assets, they're willing to cut costs.

We think that in any new device, whether a GPS unit for the PSP or something like the SIXAXIS, there's bound to be trade-offs. Fine, the price is cheaper, but to its detriment, loses a feature like vibration. On the bright side, there's still the motion sensing part of the controller, and it's generous of them to emphasize on that aspect. And when you think about it, that's actually what the controller was named after, right?

Imersion

Imersion has recently confirmed since then, that if TouchSense was integrated into the SIXAXIS, the cost for production and retail price could virtually remian the same.

Sony.............

Sony is full of it. They know that they can add it to the contorller. They are soooo full of themselves that.... forget it.

Well..

Here's to hoping they do add it to their controllers and release em later on.... Like they did w/ Joy sticks.

!!!!!!!!!!!

if was really wanted to cut the cost of the ps3 they sould have cut that BR out of the system it would be way more cheaper to make.

you have to pay immersion to use it duh!

they lost a lot of money because of the lawsuit. maybe...just maybe SONY doesn't want to add more money installing that vibration. and come to think of it. if you are playing online, do you use the vibration? ofcourse not..its a distraction, for example Madden or NBALIVE. so taking out the vibration would be fine for me.

Sony = Phony

To each and every one of you at Sony: SHUT THE "_F_U_C_K_" UP! ...and maybe you can earn your fan's respect again.

Give us the choice

It is not an essential control feature so leave it out of the standard controller, but then at least make them available as an aftermarket product for those that do want it. I can still see someone like logitech coming out with a rumble-enabled PS3 controller in the future.

^^^ exactly

thats what ive trying to say for a while now. and ppl are dumb who r complaining that sony isnt putting rumble in to it. just think about it, if someone sued you, would u go back to them after? however in thise case, the plaintiff is crawling back because they kno they made a big mistake in losing a company as large as SCE.

#8 & #9

It would also require support from developers. Without this, rumble in a controller is pointless, since the games will not use it. :|

just do it

I'd pay extra for rumble.... then again I'm probably not getting a PS3, but if I ever did they'd probably have rumble by then so I don't really care. But when I play the demos at best buy I'll probably be dissapointed :(

Translation

"If we have to come up with technology... to isolate the vibration from the sensing, if that means that the controllers are going to be so expensive, then we're doing the consumer a huge disservice by coming up with a controller that is not very affordable." Real time Translation Change "Were little whiney *****es who got owned by the company who originally created the rumble technology. and we'd rather sacrifice the happyness of our consumers then to give in to our enemies which took millions of our valuable dollars"
