Sixaxis picks up an Emmy, and other good news from CES |

More news from the CES. This time, it's for the PS3. Sony's PS3 picked up the CES Best of Innovations Award for 2007, PC World's 20 Most Innovative products Award, Sound and Vision's Editor's Choice Award, and a Digital Innovation Award from the Digital Entertainment Group.
The console itself isn't the only Sony product getting awards, GamesIndustry reports that the console's Sixaxis Controller managed to get an award too.
The Sixaxis controller has been honoured with an award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences - the Technology and Engineering Emmy Award.
Oh, and Sony also announced that they've already shipped a million PS3 units to North American retailers.
Here's Jack Tretton, CEO of SCEA, being proud of his big black box:
The overwhelming consumer demand and critical acclaim for PS3 is testament of the platform's strength and the industry's desire for a true next-generation entertainment system. ...The full potential of this powerful machine has yet to be realized. Listen, the PS3 is finally catching up, and you can expect these type of awards to pop-up all over the place. With the awesome line-up of games for the ps3 this 2007, who knows who will win the console war!
I do know one thing for certain: it's going to be a battle between Nintendo and Sony.
Microsoft is starting to fail. The Zune failed against the iPod. The Mac is starting to gain a stronger foot on the PC(although I prefer the PC's). Xbox will NOT succumb against the Wii or the PS3, but it wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft calls quits soon after.

I'm guessing their thinking about the cell processor and how its so different from everything else. Maybe because its made for ultimate media and a fraction of getting all the different machines themselves. Top of the line bluray, nice sized hard drive that you can change out, easy to add music and ***** to.... I dont know

Are you kidding? Motorstorm looks good, and so does Lair (although the jury is out on whether the game itself will suck or be great). But none of these games are beyond the 360. The PS3 is only as powerful as the 360! Well, a tiny bit more powerful, but not much of a difference, and WAY less than it should have been for a console launching one year after the 360.
id have to say its hardware and everything it can do that the wii can do minus the cursor and speaker... you wonder why wiimote didnt get it? well thats cause sony was making the sixaxis before nintendo started on the wiimote.
cell is really a very new way of thinking. i'ts not just multiple cores... it's innovation, and as such no devs can really make it sing yet. it will show itself as something else, but only after a long while - it took sony themselves ages to get anythign as good as god of war out, and look how long ff12 took to make. and that's the emotion engine, which wasn't as much of a change as the cell is this time round.
i don't get why sixaxis won this innovation thing, isn't the wiimote more different?
oh well, so be it. makes no difference to me, i'll get whichever has better games.
The CES award is for the PS3 console, it's not specifically for the SIXAXIS. For the controller, I'll quote the report; "The Sixaxis controller has been honoured with an award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences - the Technology and Engineering Emmy Award."
The 360 got it's fair share of awards too, and I'm sure the Wii has also. It's common with new high profile hardware.

About the PC thing... Macs will never win the computer market whether anyone likes it or not. The dumbasses at Apple are just competing Mac with Windows, which is not the only PC operating system. There is also Linux, which is known as the best operating system in the world. Plus, the Mac IS a PC, as Im running Apples crappy OS on my x86 PC!

Why are you running it if it is so crappy? I dont know about linux, but I can tell you that os x is like 100 times better than windows xp/vista; I mean microsoft didnt even bothered to create a new os, they just shipped the same os full of viruses with a useless black theme.

Innovation only matters if it can do something that hasn't been done before. What can the PS3 do that before could not be done? I guess it counts as a cheap blu ray player. Is that worth an award? NO.
Can the cell do anything that hasn't been done before? HELL NO. Oh wait it's an excellent hype generator.
What's special about the sixaxis? Was sony the first to use motion sensing or bluetooth, NO. Is it just a marginal improvment over the dualshock 2? YES.

Again, BlueRay isn't for gaming. It was the reason the console was delayed a whole year and why sony couldn't hit it's ORIGINAL shipment target. Sony put BlueRay ahead of gaming and everyone who bought a PS3 isn't getting what they should. The PS3 should be around $350-$400, have less software glitches, a tighter OS, and have around 200 games released by now. But instead you have BlueRay and your losing your exclusives and install base to a competing consoles.

The fact is more movies are coming out for HD DVD the studios are getting behind it because of the 'hybrid' HD DVDs that a complatible with regular DVDs. The quality is better on HD DVD because of the VC-1 codec that is being used. And by the time the PS3 is a reason price there will be cheap standalone HD DVD players.
Unlike some idiots I'm not claiming victory. It's still too close to call. Sony and it's partners are trying bullsh** tactics to make people believe BlueRay is winning, when currently it's not.

HD-DVD had Better Image Becase of the VC-1 Codec while Blu-ray Used "Mpeg-2"...this is a temporary Problem...as Blu-ray Will use better Codecs in 2007

How many DVD players are there out there? More than half a billion? HD DVD hybird can play on all these players and will enable people to setup to HD DVD when the players are $40 to $60 in 3 years time.
Again I'm not saying HD DVD is going to win, but anyone saying that BlueRay has won is an idoit. BlueRay is currently losing.
And by the way, Warner is supporting both HD DVD and BlueRay, they are just interested in selling HD DVD + BlueRay titles. In the article they only talk about they are excited about releasing Superman Return on BlueRay which is already out on HD DVD and the 360's Video Market Place.
