SIXAXIS not ready to rumble... yet |
Ó
Much has been said regarding the return of rumble controllers for the Sony PlayStation 3, but the Japanese firm is still mum on the subject. More sources and analysts point out that a rumble-enable controller is inevitable and it should only be a matter of time for it to be released. Blog Innerbits had something to add to the fuss. The site speculates that even though Sony is keeping quiet on the PR end, the technical wing is busy testing a prototype of a new rumble-enabled controller. Innerbits also said that it's technologically feasible to have a rumbling SIXAXIS, but at this point, the market viability isn't there yet as the whole thing just takes too much power.
In essence, what you might end up getting if the new controller is released today is a working piece of hardware that has all the good stuff (wireless connectivity, motion-sensing and rumble support), but the battery life wouldn't be at a satisfactory level and there wouldn't be enough games to support it. "The battery life issue is an engineering problem, and we have no doubt Sony will resolve it satisfactorily" says the article.
The bigger problem, Innerbits stresses, is in the realm of customer relations. The first woe would be that Sony will have to live with the fact that it announced early on that rumbling isn't next-gen and second, it has to pull the act off without raising the ire of the users who bought the PS3 early on without the SIXAXIS.
There's no way here and now that we can confirm or debunk the entire rumble rumor, but we must say that the points raised are as valid as any we've heard so far regarding the topic. We'll keep you posted as the events in the rumble saga unfold.

also what will happen to people who bought normal sixaxis's? i hope they have a service where u can trade in non-rumble for rumble for like 10$
do you actually think they'll do that? they won't, nor should they be expected to.
and anyone who thinks they should is either 14 years old or just as stupid as one
Your a dumba*s...
they should make it a new rumble ...not just shake every where, shake where you been hit, shake left and right during motorstorm on turns with a lil up and down on hard landings...not just a simple rumble...next gen rumble...
wow i never thought of that, thats a great idea it can be called blu-rumble or soemthing blu sicne evrything else on ps3 is blu lolz well good idea though thats nex gen style
Didn't a lot of people buy the Dual Shock for PS1 separately after that came out? I think I bought a system with only a digital pad. This isn't that much different. Analog sticks are a bigger deal than rumble.
We never had rumble but then Dual Shock came out and a poplular game that supported it was Resident Evil 1 and ps1s new models were shipped with a rumle controller. This is not a problem with me
Think its hard cuz they have the sixaxis thing.
I don't give a f... for a rumble. I wouldn't trade it for shortet battery life. Sixaxis is great the way it is now.
Sure outsider, sixaxis is great the way it is right now, minus the gimick motion part. Honestly, I wish they would just stop trying to 'enhance' the ps3 with all these firmware updates and hardware updates and just release a few decent games before lets say september... since the summer is when me and most of the people I know that have the PS3 are off from school and have more time to play.
I don't really care about rumble either, all it did was irritate me because the most of the game adds it when you take damage in the game.
However when they make specific games like the new bowling game or other games you could see in HOME, maybe the rumble feature would add more fun to it. It certainly is not working on racing and action games which is my favorite types of games. I don't see any problem with coming with a new controller by the end of the year. The psx got the Dual Shock after a while.
And Im guessing the problems Sony are trying to solve is:
Not getting more weight on the controller
Not making the vibrations destroy the gyro-function
Not getting the controller more expensive
Not letting the vibration function draw to much battery
And there is of course, a possible new design of the controller since it's identical to the dual shock 2.
If they added rumble back it would be a great thing. even if the battery life is only four or five hours. Hell according to most game manuals you should take a break at two hours anyways. Just make it a little thicker all arount to accomidate the rumble motors and a larger battery and it'll be fine. If anyone has ever seen the inside of a Sixaxis they know the motion sensing device is about the size of a dime. the thing that takes up most of the space is the battery which is about the size of well.... look at this article http://gear.ign.com/articles/748/748732p2.html make the battery a bit wider and throw in some smaller motors for rumble and add a feature to turn off rumble in game from the xmb
Im 14 (15 the 23rd) and im acting more mature than you
I was always wondering if they made all those controllers remove why dont they add a kinetic type of battery support? Its been on watches for years. Not that it will fully recharge the battery but even if our moves add a 20% of its power back that would be more than sufficient...
Awesome ideas, guys! I thought I'd take mikey's comment and put it in the title. darkgeekrocker has it right-on. I have both PS3 and 360, and find it really ridiculous when everyone's all upset over no rumble in PS3, when on 360 all I get when I hit a car in Test Drive on 360 is a little electronic-zap feeling piffle. --This is supposed to be something people can't live without? It is time to take rumble to another level. And I agree 100% with darkgeekrocker that (along with the motion control of SIXAXIS) a location-aware rumble, if possible, would be revolutionary. Or, how about some 'bump-pads' in areas of the body that actually MOVE in-and-out of your hand slightly, so that there is ACTUAL resistance, and not just an electronic piffle within the controller body?
FACT #1: Immersion has a new type of rumble for next-gen consoles -that uses less battery life- and can be marketed as such.
FACT #2: Resolving Battery Life Issues are easier to resolve then previously let on... COST? you might have a heavier controller in your hands, since extra batteries will be located in the grip areas, since next-gen rumble is one motor only, which is smaller and lighter too.
FACT #3: The boomerang controller would have been better!!!!!! I would have felt better and shut-up the silly xbots that you were so obsessed about!
The people working on the firmware and the games are completely separate. So when Sony updates the firmware they aren't taking away resources from making new games.
Gord
Since Sony said rumble will interfere with the suxaxis tilt sensor, they have to take that out right?
Ha ha how sony's own lies come back to haunt them.
No they thought that it would interfere with the sixaxis sensor.
But microsoft thought that nobody would notice if they stuck the 360 together with glue and blue tack and then deny putting in heat sinks so STFU!
ok you went kind of far to a level where is jsut weird (wii) pads and stuff are wii status ill stick to my controller lolz
LOL Andrew you just Pwned Mister Common Sense, good on you mate!
Yeah He sure did "Pwned" him. I'm glad PS3Rider and others get online to QJ to PWN things cause their precious console doesn't have any games to PWN things in. Meanwhile I'm sure Master Common Sense and others such as myself are now, while you are reading this and typing come gay little come backs cause your FanBoy Ego is hurt, We will be playing and Pwn on our console that actually has games worth playing
If "STFU" had any type of an education past the 8th grade, he'd realize he just completely contradicted himself, and not only that, but he was a total hypocrite in his response. Not to mention he felt so good giving himself a blow job about insulting "PS3Rider" after suggesting he is above insulting people, he totally forgot to proof-read it and make any sense what-so-ever.
"Meanwhile I'm sure Master Common Sense and others such as myself are now,"
Damn, what college was blessed with your superior intellect?
Let's not forget about Microsoft's previous comments about not needing HDMI and how 20 gigabytes was more than enough space for the 360.
Ha ha how Microsoft's own lies come back to haunt them.
PS - You spelled contradiction wrong.
i like the fact how he thinks making fun of the word pwn makes him the the victor in his little vagina spat. next time try attacking something else other than a word (albeit that it doesn't exist) that most everybody online uses anyway.
Take your time fooling around with customers.
Sure , the PS3 is high priced , there are no decent games for it ,......but at least it doesn`t have Rumble. Duh !!!
The whole Playstation success story is build on the PS1.
In it`s days the PS1 was technically beyond everything.
And then , everybody went out and bought a PS2 because of that.
When the Dreamcast came out it had AAA games and great graphics.
But everybody was waiting for the PS2 cause it just had to be so much better.
And then the first games like Ridge Racer 5 just sucked it up.
Sony just doesn`t have a clue.
They still rely on the old PS1 success , when the consoles virtually sold themselves.
The PS3 is unfinished , and it doesn`t have great games.
And without an expensive HDTV outlet it doesn`t make sense.
Gee , i barely can`t stop myself from spending 600$ for all that. NOT!!!
Wtf are you talking about moron? The ps3 is supposed to last for like 9 years and it hasn't even been out for a yr yet and you're already calling it a failure?!?!
wahhhh i have no job and no money to afford a system so great along with an hd tv so im just going to cry and act like i hate it wahhhhhhhhh
Sony has a way of shafting their customers. In the end, YOU'RE the one that bought their stuff. If you don't like something, don't buy it and shut the hell up. You spent the $600 and got a system without a rumble controller. Sony doesn't owe you anything.
hahahah u mofos cant rumble! get a xbox360 and feel the force
they said they were adding a new kind of rumble thats very sensitive. You can feel a pin drop.
theres a big chip thats flat and the rest of it is empty... Idk bout you, but I like some weight in my controller.
Games coming out... Lair, Rainbow six vegas, Darkness, ninja gayden, and (not a game) Home open beta
some weight in my controller. Feels like im holding a feather lol
Cause i have games worth playing. N Mr. common it didnt bite them in the as5 because obviously there doing somthing about it. All 360 people keep saying is it dosnt have games but that already almost dead lie will be done by the end of june.
Y does every1 keep saying it dosnt have games... It DIDNT have games, but now it does. and the PS3 wen you break it down next to a ps3
Atleast my damn PS3 never overheats Or gets the disk tray stuck (which isnt possible because it has the next gen built in disk thing)... its ashame that even the Wii has it.
Wen you break down a PS3 next to a 360 i meant
Shafting your customers... even though every 360 owner is paying for online and almost everything thats in the XBL store. Yea i guess i really got screwd over by not having rumble (YET...)
To the guy under we cant rumble yet but it'll be here.
sorry i dont buy *****ty crap that doesnt work
LMAO Sony sucks balls. XBox 360 is the way to go. I feel sorry for you sony ***** suckers cant see all the great stuff on the great ulmight XBOX! Oh and did I mention rumble hahaha *****s XBOX 360 FTW!!!
You've got to admit it's funny how sony prefers to lie rather than just admit the truth and say, "we tried to fight immersion and lost 95 million in court and didn't want to pay because we like to act like we invent all this stuff ourselves and we don't need any other companies' technology."
I also like reading the typical fantard replies and then idiots acting like they proved something to me.
