SIXAXIS LED modification: Feeling blue |
Ó
Here's his work:
M37R01D's major complaint with the modification process was that the controller's power source only outputs 2.8v. This requires him to find 2.8 volt LEDs or find a way to juice up the output with a transistor.
Now the color change isn't that big a difference, but you have to admit, that glowy PS button is a bit cool.

omfg that blue + ps button == sex0rs! is there a detailed instructions? i dunno anything about modding and i want to do this! this looks awesome!
looks pretty simple, not sure if i want to disassemble my sixaxis controller. i used to changed leds for phones, but im not sure how to install a transistor, or if my leds are 2.8 volts. i'll test is out see how it goes i guess. white leds might look sick
no sry no tutorial
but its pretty striat foward, the posistive side of the led goes toward the top. and the grounds go down.
BTW yes the sixaxis sux takin apart their are alot of small pieces
i like the blue :) especially on the ps button
OMFG two words BAD AZZ plz tell me how 2 do this but the thing about it is im on ly 14 so dont know ***** about soldering, but if you tell me what to get and where to solder i can do it. BTW can you plz tell my if you can do different colors?? maybe like orange or green plz i need to know i got 2 controllers, so if they break ill return them :) just tell me please.
noone knows, except me, muahahahaha
all you have to do is solder off those little pieces of plastic (the LEDs) and replace them with new ones of your color. You can choose any color that you want. you just have to buy the different colored LEDs...
I can't but help notice on the picture of the SIXAXIS circuit board that the PS button seems to line up with Reference Designator "LED5". I wonder why Sony decided not to solder in a LED there, as the mod seems to show it works beautifully. (Or am I jumping to the wrong conclusion about how M37R01D got the PS button to glow?)
I just did a quick search of DigiKey and couldn't find any Blue LEDs that are rated at 2.8V. Where did you get yours? Also, what SMT package are they (standard package name if you know)?
Also, did you have to come up with any fancy light-pipe or mounting for the PS button LED, or did soldering it directly to the board work?
Thanx.
Found LEDs that should work finally.

But it's a great idea^^, good job.
