Alright, heads up all you Sony luvvers and other PS3-droolers, Kotaku has just posted a video on YouTube showing the Sixaxis interface and demonstrates the game loading speed on the PS3 with NBA '07.

We're not sure if you guys are gonna like this vid, 'coz all it practically shows is how you go in and out of the game and a brief 101 on the SIXAXIS. Even the comments on YouTube are not that great, with one user saying "find something better to do with your time no on cares about this worthless sh*t" Tsk tsk.

BUT, we decided to share the video nonetheless in case you guys haven't been checking out YouTube lately. And, it COULD provide some info for those who haven't been reading up on the PS3. One of the tidbits you'll get from the vid is that NBA '07 has to be loaded in the console's HDD to make the load time quicker, but we dunno whether that's just for NBA 07, or for all the games that'll make its way to your PS3's.

So anyway, we'll just let you check out the video yourself. Let us know what you think.

And thanks, Sony PSP, for the heads up.

TV

Could he find a worse TV to be playing a PS3 on?

by - 2006-11-07 15:12:48
Idiot

What an idiot! Thats a better way of exiting a game anyway. Doesnt he know that the psp does that aswell!? --Vaza

by senjutsu - 2006-11-07 15:35:16
yeah

way faster than finding a menu and all you can play and while playing press the PS button and quit the game on the fly, it's WAY faster and easier!!!

by - 2006-11-07 15:41:01
asd

Please lets not argue, but honestly, give some credit to MS for coming up with the Guide Button. PS3 just took it, put the PS logo on top over it. I believe it even functions the same, you know when you hold the button it gives a little menu. Also, that's the only way to turn off the controller which I don't like that much for either system. I'm just saying this not because its bad, but so people can realize 360 had some innovations as well, not just the PS3. Just my 2 cents Agree, Disagree?

by - 2006-11-07 15:47:13
hmm

Disagree, since it's called Home on the PSP, which was out first. However, credit to MS for adding more functionality to the button.

by - 2006-11-07 16:03:12
aa

Really, never knew that.

by BULL3TPR00F - 2006-11-07 16:10:20
hmm...

i think quitting by pressing the PS button is better than having an option in game. its much quicker with the PS button.

by - 2006-11-07 16:13:58
Disagree

like he sais i got a psp and really Same but beter Wave effect and more option its fast and simple XMB Rulz !

by abumu - 2006-11-07 17:37:55
what a retard

Its not sony's choice of what its game do. the developer would have to program that into a game! Sony did that in case the games maker didnt put the option of quiting the game.

by - 2006-11-07 19:18:58
WTF - did I hear copying 360's menu button?

the guy above says PS has copied 360's guide button. like....WTF....guide buttons have been around for ages...DVD players anyone??? It can't be considered an innovation. Oh, 1 more thing, the menu system in the 360 looks like crap compared to XMB. 360's is all cramped and looks typically of Microsoft style, which has no element of design (chunky slabs of spaces, borders...you name it) and needlessly complicated. From the appearance and interface standpoint, it's hard not to dislike them when compared to the competition. (Zune, Windows, chunky black keyboards etc etc...) They need to hire some decent designers man.

by senjutsu - 2006-11-07 20:41:45
everything look fine

the load times are normal, and adding up speed with a "3 minutes or less in the microwave" system ( putting on HD ) is pretty cool, I think one game on the xbox 360 in japan can do it, named ninety nine night ( dunno if it's true, one of my friend said that to me yesterday ). the "quit game" button is the "home" button of the PSP with is an obligation on media centers, and that just what the ps3 is. So it's not very "special" and I suppose it supprised nobody, but anyway it's TOO MUCH usefull, dah! :D ps: I wonder if we'll just start our emulator on Linux or in the ps3 XMB... I suppose it would be better in the XMB so we could just install "already finished and working" versions of emulators? I hope some clever guy will code some new emulator, like PS2/GC/XBOX and maybe PSP and NDS??(with a mouse it's cool) :D I suppose the hardware can run them LOL. and with full access on the hardware by the linux yellow dog OS... I just hope ( for sony ) that we wont be able to launch ISO too soon, this destroyed the psp... and now we only have poor games ( but sonic coming soon ) but anyway I sold my PSP :'( ( for 220$US with the 1.5 firmware mod that emulate 2.71 ) Anyway, I'm starting to really want my ps3... But I need to wait some more ( january at least ), I want to know what the bug are before I buy... bah, it's stupid, I should just buy a 2 years warranty :D:D ( but it's surely no cheap.. :'( )

by - 2006-11-07 21:26:35
funny

dont u think its funny/weird that these videos never show the actual PS3 system connected or sitting on the table or watever. (think about it)

by - 2006-11-07 21:58:22
hilarious

how do you function in society with such levels of paranoia and distrust?

by - 2006-11-07 22:12:43
hm

Love how the PS3 controller turns on EXACTLY like the 360 controller. I was worried that sony would use one of thier own ideas for the controller, that thought scared me...way to go sony.

by - 2006-11-07 22:48:25
ever used a psp?

seriously if psp already does that so i don't think its right for xbox360 fanboys to think it was first used by microsoft just because they marketed it more

by - 2006-11-07 22:53:12
idiot

dude your an idiot how else would it turn on w/strob lights you need to stop nitpicking and heres something different you don't have to get up everytime to put on controller which conpletely defeats the purpose of a controller that turns the console on

by - 2006-11-07 23:07:18
well

how do you expect to turn on the PS3? clap your hands?

by - 2006-11-08 04:42:50
Idiot

Who is this idiot of a reviewer? He doesn't deserve to be playing with the PS3 the way he is talking! And honestly, what muppet connects the PS3 to a crappy 18" TV or whatever that thing is for a review?! And he talks non stop about how there is no way of exiting the game ... in-game! I have some Xbox 360 games that have no exit option! He's a Simpleton!

by - 2006-11-08 07:02:49
360 GUI PWNS THIS!

From what ive seen so far this looks basic and weakly designed compared to the 360's.

by Pacos - 2006-11-08 07:16:56
He...

Dropped the controller!!!!!! Oh come on man! Also, what the hell is wrong with pressing the Playstation button to exit the game? xbox360 does the same thing, or at least mine does, than you enter the dashboard by pressing B I think. Someone else should have done this review...he didn't even realize it was a THX screen, come on dude! Anyone knows that's a THX ad...

by - 2006-11-08 07:56:11
.

did anyone notice the install to the HDD isnt optional in that game? its basically required.

by - 2006-11-08 08:13:32
Waist of technology and money.

I hate the Blue Ray drive in the ps3. I know it makes it faster but really I don't care. It just made it way to expensive. Why didn't they just put a 42x DVD drive instead? It would have been almost as fast and cheaper. That damn Blue ray drive added an extra $200 onto the price. Yeah, $200, thats @#$2@#$ bs. I don't even want to get this system because of the colossal amount of money that I would be waisting. I'm sticking with the Nintendo Wii because It's totally innovative, It's 100% original, and It's has the perfect price. And you don't need to buy a $2000 tv just to get the best graphics out of it to. By the time your done getting the ps3 ready for "perfect" play you'll end up spend 2 to 3 grand.

by - 2006-11-08 08:29:23
Thats wrong Daniel

The blu-ray slows it down. It's a 6mb/s maximum read speed. Also, I don't know how you guys can say that was a normal load time, because that was too long or every time you start the game.

by Spector - 2006-11-08 11:47:44
Covering this post and the last

Nope your wrong. The PS3 BD reads at 8.7 something mb/s consistantly. That load time is bad because it's a port games like Genji on the other hand have load times of just 15 seconds or if you install to HDD 4 seconds. In comparison to the DVDx12 drive in the 360 both will be equaling out in the end due to the fact when you read to the inside of a DVD the speed slows down below that of the BD. And the guy above about 42x DVD vr. BD. Sony choose BD because with the large size of games working with DVD-9s is becoming harder (check this article out) http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/entertainment/next-gen-consoles-held-up-by-last-gen-disc-speeds-196976.php Reistance: Fall of Man has already broken past this 9GB mark which kind of shows you games will be getting bigger and bigger. 360s DVD drive will be showing its age in the coming years I think. Also the BD is extremely quiet as you can hear. And that guy above also says $2000 TV that is also misinformation you can get a 20" HDTV capable of 720p and 1080i for about $500 (check out newegg.com)

by - 2006-11-08 11:52:43
But...

>"In comparison to the DVDx12 drive in the 360 both will be equaling out in the end due to the fact when you read to the inside of a DVD the speed slows down below that of the BD" ...that's only for the first 1GB (approx). After that, DVD 12x is increasingly faster than Blu-ray 2x.

by Spector - 2006-11-08 11:59:20
yes

the average read speed on the 12x DVD drive is like 12mb/s from what I know. That will be faster yes, but you pay for that speed with lack of space. BD pays for space with speed. Basically I think it evens out overall. BD might have a edge though since it has room to expand a lot more (up to 50GB).

by - 2006-11-08 12:11:14
Yes, more space is great -

- but I think it's not necessarily going to work out in the way gamers expect. Having 50GB doesn't mean developers are going to fill the disk with 50GB of game content, especially since creating games cost money, and the larger the game, the greater the number of assets, and so the greater the costs. Blu-ray removes the head ache of thinking about disk space during game developement, hence PS3 developers do not need to think about solutions such as multiple disks, but it doesn't mean it's there to be filled for the sack of it. With the trend in the future for more and more content to be delivered online, Phil Harrison speculated that the PS4 will not need an optical disk! What does that say about Blu-ray by the end of this gen? Hence when time and costs are considered, I doubt developers are going to fill Blu-ray disks with 50GB of data upon release when they can ship the game at half that size and recoup some of the developement costs by charging gamers for additional content online. Hence don't be surprised if average PS3 game sizes peak well short of that figure in future, perhaps even reducing nearer the end of this generation. We'll see. :)

by Spector - 2006-11-08 12:39:44
Exactly

I know that nobody is probably going to touch the 50GB which is also kind of a good thing. It's just there like you said so developers have a little more freedom in how much content they put on the disc. And I would agree that games will probably shy away from optical discs since that technology is much slower than hard drive technology. For the 5-8 years it's around though it will do very well I think (for a PC user atleast new technology lasting 5-8 years is a good bit of time). All I can say though is atleast with the BD developers don't have to worry about that 9GB DVD-9 limit and making multi-disc games. Take Care :)

by - 2006-11-08 13:15:09
im old now.....

that takes forever to load.....*****t.....i wouldnt want to wait that long. It didnt even load the game up....that was just the THX video and menu stuff....wow have fun waiting.....

by Spector - 2006-11-08 13:25:11
it's a port

Games that are ports are going to be slow like that because the developers aren't making it as effecient as possible for the console. Other games made for the console like Genji will have load times around 15-14 seconds and with the use of the HDD only 4 seconds.

by CHUCKINGROCKSATSPACESHIPS - 2006-11-08 21:18:43
Good

More for me then

by CHUCKINGROCKSATSPACESHIPS - 2006-11-08 21:25:30
Load Times, Gold Times

Who cares. I like The option of having more content, more options. Potential 9gigs for $59.99 or potential 54gigs for $59.99. Hmmm, hard choice.

by - 2006-11-09 14:43:21
ugh

No....but I'm pretty sure theres other ways than the EXACT same way the 360 turns on.... Don't justify what sony has done...which is wait, and then copy other peoples ideas.
