So apparently Polyphony Digital is shooting for a simultaneous worldwide release for the long-awaited Gran Turismo 5. Oh, and that feature list we saw a while back? The one that showed up on the studio's website and then got pulled? Everything listed there was true.

All of this was confirmed by Polyphony head honcho Kazunori Yamauchi in a recent interview with Italian gaming website, MultiPlayer.it. Yamauchi also revealed that there will be real NASCAR and WRC races and not just the cars, and that the damage system won't be pure cosmetics -- they'll also affect a car's handling.

You can check out the video interview with Yamauchi at the source link below. If you don't speak Italian, here's a translated transcript courtesy of GTPlanet:

MultiPlayer:  GT5 Release?
KY: ”The game is still under development but its release is not too far, it will be after the PSP GT release and, very probably, it will be a simultaneous world release”

MultiPlayer:What about the game features that were published on the official japanese site, 1000 cars, 80 tracks and YouTube download?
KY: ”We would like to wait to publish them, but what you read on the site is true.”

MultiPlayer:  Is there something new in the single player mode
KY: ”If you look at the PSP version, you’ll see that the game is very different from the previous Gran Turismo versions. The 5th episode will have many similar features to the PSP version”

MultiPlayer:  How the damages will influence the gameplay?
KY: ”The damages are not only visible, they will affect the driving style. It depends on the player, some players will like it, others will not”

MultiPlayer:  Will we have Nascar and WRC championships in the game or just the cars?
KY: ”There will be real Nascar races in the game. Nascar had necessary to be included in the game. Regarding WRC championship we have been trying to add it to series since long ago. Now we got it.”

At the end KY confirmed 1080p and 60 fps.

Well for anyone who wants a REAL driving sim, then GT has always been the way to go. Forza is 360's closest racer that is a sim, but it is still very arcade like....PGR, not even close to a sim. The only thing forza has on GT is the custom paint jobs....it is really something when you can paint a huge snatch, or pair of tig bitties on the hood of your pimped out ride.

they're making a left turn...they're making a left turn...what will they do next???? lol...and yes I did take this joke from Jeff Dunham

....

Yeah I never was a fan of nascar.....I guess you have to turn right if you want to pass someone :P I think it will be good online play....the last one to fall asleep durring the race is the winner......or it will just turn into a demolition derby, with a couple random people trying mess up everyone else...

by danielakadanny - 2009-08-31 16:56:48
turn right?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

the only reason they would turn "right to pass someone" is to make a crash happen and ratings will skyrocket up into SPACE! /sarcasm heck that will make me watch nascar anyday

by Shatterdome - 2009-08-31 17:16:13
....

People probably watch it just in hopes of a crash. If you youtube "nascar crashes" you get some pretty nice compilations. It's funny how it's usually one guy nudging another from behind and the dirty guy that does the nudging from behind usually drives away.....usually.
