Shooting spree suspect leaves his 60GB backwards compatible PS3 to roommate

Erik Salvador Ayala - Image 1Depressed and unemployed, Erik Salvador Ayala from Milwaukee went on a shooting spree in downtown Portland, then went on to shoot himself. Nine people were shot, two of them were killed. Ayala survived, but he's in critical condition.

He left a note for his roommate, Mike Delisle, saying that he could have all that he owned, even giving his personal info, such as his social security number and bank account number if ever Delisle should ever need them. Among the things that Ayala left Delisle is his most prized possession - his 60GB backwards compatible PS3.

In the note he left to Delisle, Ayala gave his ol' buddy more info about his special PS3 to help him make money out of it. Here's a part of that note:

You know my ps3 is special. Similar USED ps3's go for AT LEAST $450-$500. Our landlord guy wants a ps3 like mine. Let him know that $400 would be a GOOD deal. If he doesn't want it, format the drive by going to Settings>System>Format Utility. You can say it "comes with the latest firmware software" to help market it on the internet. In case you don't know, it's the special "100% backwards compatible" (60 GB) ps3.

You have to hand it to the guy - despite having issues about money and society, he still manages to talk about his PS3 with such loving detail on a suicide note. Now judging by the detail on the note, it seems that the new owner, Mark Delisle, has little idea as to how valuable his new console is. They didn't give any info on how to reach the guy (yes, I thought about it hahaha), so let's just hope that the next owner will give it a nice home.

Why that PS3 is valuable:

wow...

Life sucks but I don't see why these people have to express themselves with blades and bullets. I don't really care much about the whole PS3 thing. This is disgraceful.
by DigiTalDeaD - 2009-01-27 16:37:25
What?

Who the fu*k cares? This is THE most pointless and disrespectful post i have ever seen on QJ, people die, and all you can focus on is his "BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE PS3!!!11" Jesus Christ, do some REAL reporting..
by avatar76 - 2009-01-27 16:46:55
I agree

We probably shouldn't be even reporting stuff like this, this guy should not be celebrated for what he knew. He should be forgotten, his victims deserve to be remembered. To make matters worse this gives ammunition to those groups that say violent video games cause violence. I bet GTAIV gets mentioned at some point. The other two big targets halo and Gears of War can't get blamed on this occasion at least because they're not on the PS3 (yet).
by TouchDaSkeleton - 2009-01-27 17:26:10
...

well people are always dying but this guy he had a backwards compatible ps3, well im going to live with my friend on xbox live :)
by kerrykerrykerry - 2009-01-27 18:42:50
...

You know this is an entertainment/information site, rite? This article accomplished both. You over-sensitive vaginas need to relax. Death and murder is a part of life, but qj tried to lighten it up by pointing out a humorous silver-lining. Hey 5,000 more people died today in africa due to a lack of food production, what are doing about it and other deaths around the world? Pretending that you care? If you cared you would actually do something, instead of sit on your ass and whine, while others take note of the peculiarities of the story and poke fun at humanity. That guy just needed to get laid, though... ;-D
by y2bangali - 2009-01-27 18:53:05
lol

well this is not a bad post... at least we now know this guy loved something in life... but RIP to the 2 ppl he killed... and why r u guys blaming QJ? I know about the 2 ppl he murdered and i feel bad but those ppl has nothing to do with focusing on 'BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE PS3', its actually focusing on 'this guy was planning to commit suicide, and even while knowing about losing his life, he talks special about his ps3'. So we know how much his PS3 was worth to him.... I wonder wut he would say if it was a 360... be careful about the RROD or something like that..
by Allstaraugustine - 2009-01-27 20:17:09
lol also

of course this is a sad bad post but QJ is just relating it to games! they arent saying "who cares if he died, he had a backwards compat!" thats just what the note says retards
by NarooN - 2009-01-27 20:17:56
and this poster here, everyone,

is why I lose more faith in mankind every single day.
by ZEROmaverick - 2009-01-27 20:19:42
freedom?

that's what you obtain with laws that allows every single people to be able to buy guns and weapons... I still don't understand how a country that is a globlal leader in many aspects of our society can allow this kind of behavior
by phiyuku - 2009-01-27 20:30:43
Wow this can be spinned so easily by Jack Thompson and I guess other "researchers"

"Playstation 3 Owners are Prone to go on Murder Sprees."
by luch559 - 2009-01-27 20:43:15
ur retarted

if he didn't get the gun from gun store, which he probably didn't he would probably have gotten one from some blackmarket dealer
by DigiTalDeaD - 2009-01-27 21:01:40
Well..

anything can be considered a weapon if you can harm somebody with it, in the UK we don't allow guns, but we still get reports on the TV about people being shot/stabbed/beaten to death etc etc.. Guns don't kill, the idiots using them do.
by DigiTalDeaD - 2009-01-27 21:12:38
Probably or..

"good luck cancelling our xbox live account, sucker"
by Master Chef - 2009-01-27 21:22:03
I don't get this either

20, 30 years ago, nobody committed suicide as well as taking along as many people as possible with them. They just got a gun, went into the basement, and ate a bullet. y does this happen so much now
by kerrykerrykerry - 2009-01-27 22:05:35
...

haha why? because im rite? have you ventured down to any death-ridden countries with a bag full of lifestraws or anything lately? Im just pointing out that people can identify a problem and then blow it off, but get mad when others do the same. but it's cool, no one needs your faith for anything, though ;-D
by kerrykerrykerry - 2009-01-27 22:11:55
...

good point, or maybe they just didnt keep very good records of murder/suicides back then? I mean, if you committed suicide back then, you were deemed a homo in the obituary
by TouchDaSkeleton - 2009-01-27 22:40:41
...

guess noone got my qj joke maybe next one ill mention Rene and punching babies anyway lol he died
by death - 2009-01-27 22:52:13
wow

just wow, thats all i gotta say
by triac - 2009-01-27 23:52:44

He owned a console? When is someone like thompson popping up saying that games were the cause of this? Did I miss somethign?
by mortician10101 - 2009-01-28 01:50:53
lol

over-sensitive vaginas... that is all
by NarooN - 2009-01-28 02:27:48
haha.

Because you're right? I'd love to know how. I basically live in America; i.e. everyone asks for our help when they're in a scrap, but when we actually help them, they get pissed and shun them. ***** the rest of the world, they're not my obligation. I feel sorry for any innocents in other countries, but unfortunately I'm not rich and don't have the ability to do ***** to help. I'm more concerned with things happening on American soil. Btw, I'd love to know what it is your presumably fat ass is doing about it. You sure were quick to jump to generalizations, so obviously oyu must be some top card in curing world hunger or solving conflicts in Africa, right? but it's cool, no one needs your hypocrisy and sheer stupidity for anything though. +D
by milo128 - 2009-01-28 07:43:02
hes

not getting celebrated people are reflecting on what could possibly possess him to do it

by RexNox - 2009-01-28 11:30:54
I betcha...

he got the YLOD. Call Agent Dunham.
by Alienhideout - 2009-01-28 11:36:02
To ZEROmaverick

Your comment is no different than the anti-video game crowd blaming games for negative behavior. This guy could just as easily HAVE bashed someone's head in with his PS3 and then jump out of a window. He was set on killing others and himself. A disturbed mind is what drove him to do this. Whiners always blame inanimate objects instead of forcing everyone to accept responsibility for their own actions. What happened is truly sad, but I say this guy took the P*SSY's way out. There are other ways to deal with your problems. IF GUNS CAUSE CRIME, S*****S MAKE PEOPLE FAT.
by Alienhideout - 2009-01-28 11:38:48
Edit

That should read "If guns cause crime s*****s make people fat!"
by ajtwmd1 - 2009-01-28 14:56:33
WOW...

jesus! people need to calm down, *****! the reason they put this article on this website is cuz its a GAMING website, and it had something to do with GAMING. they wouldnt have put this story in if it was just about some dude killing people. this isnt cnn.com! and people shouldnt be surprised, suicide has been a high reason for death rates in america for a while. sorry to say, but people should expect more suicides due to the economy, especially if this country hits another great depression. there were so many suicides in the first great depression, and apparently the news is saying that the economy is gonna be worse than that. i feel sorry for the innocent people this guy took with him. im not an *****, but i couldnt care less if he would of killed people who dont care about anyone but themselves. like the rich heads of corporations who would rather lay off employees than take a pay cut themselves. @ naroon humans are just a greedy and stupid species. most humans say that they care about others, like say starving people in africa, but only few are kindhearted to do something about it. kerry(x3) was just pointing out that people in general didnt care. he probably doesnt care either, but hes just saying that other people pretend to care. and you dont need to be rich to help, if you really wanted to help, you could make a charity organization or something. most humans dont care about anyone but themselves, except for the few that help others, those few whom i respect. "***** the rest of the world, they're not my obligation". thanks for proving my point. i admit, i dont really care about starving people, partly cuz i hav some financial issues of my own rite now, partly cuz i dont know who the people that are starving really are. they may be thiefs or murderers, or an abusive person(im also talking about starving people in america) i dont need to lie about it like so many do. humanity is disgraceful. we have evolved so much, yet there are still so many wars for stupid *****. imagine how much we can help the earth and accomplish if we all just tolerated eachothers race, religion or whatever, and do away with countries. but for now, the only way the world would do better is if humans ceased to exist. humans are the only ones that made the planet the way it is, by building cities and factories. i dont see animals tearing apart jungles. the planet would run so much smoother if humans were not occupying it.---RANT OVER
by Master Chef - 2009-01-28 17:22:24
true

plus the proliferation of the media, they are everywhere now, and report on every little thing, but it still certainly happens much more than it used to. maybe thats why they do it, because they know itll be on TV and people will know they existed. the people will hate the killer, but theyll know the killer
by Jowga - 2009-01-28 20:06:39
WOW

Just WOW I dont like this at all
by Kaneco - 2009-01-28 20:55:37
Ughh...

These days...everything is blamed on just about anything, so clarifying that won't help. It's all about common sense...Real knowledge is knowing the extent of one's ignorance...which a lot of people in power lack during these times... Sad but true.
by nomder - 2009-01-29 00:54:40
Couldn't agree with you more DigiTalDeaD

This is nonsense. By reporting on this bastard qj is giving this undeserving scum exactly what his pathetic @$$ wanted. Where is the thumbs down button????
by the by - 2009-01-29 03:21:52
I don't get this at all

So if i leave my 60gig ps3 to my wife when i kick the bucket, will this become news too? this news thread really has no relevence to the site at all!! the author must either be struggling for news, or hes not looking hard enough! this isn't worthy of our attention!!
