Shingo "Seabass" Takatsuka's been picked up for an interview by the PSM3 Magazine recently, where he shared his thoughts on the recent problems that had been reported on the PlayStation 3 release of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (also on the PC, Wii, DS, PSP, Xbox 360).According to the Winning Eleven series creator/producer, they (Konami) felt that the game wasn't built up to the standard they had expected during development. As Takatsuka elaborated:
We never wanted to release PES 2008 in this state on PS3. In fact, we thought about delaying it but different factors meant we had to. It's so far away from what we wanted. As a developer, we've worked the same way since the days of SNES. We're simply not set up for multi-platform development.
As the readers will recall, there's a rumor in circulation that says a patch is being prepared to treat the lag and frame rate issues that were noticed in PES 2008's multiplayer mode. Konami has yet to comment on this matter.
Moving on from the issue of PES 2008's PS3 port, Takatsuka indicated more hopefulness for the future installment of his soccer series, PES 2009. "Look at the way the PS2 version panned out from the first to the last game. We're well on course to follow suit on PS3," he said.
Speaking more on PES 2009, Takatsuka stated that after hearing the criticisms for its predecessors, Konami decided to rethink how they were to develop the game. "It might not be next year, but it will be soon", he said regarding the next installment's probable launch date.
