Shooter fans, here's a little something for you guys. Seven new screens for SCEA's upcoming MMO shooter, MAG. Feast yer eyes on the crisp 3D environments and the places you can duck and shoot from!

It seems that MAG will allow a player to opt between first or third person views, judging by the screenshots. Unless of course, I'm mistaken and we're looking through the eyes of an unarmed player. Too far-fetched to speculate at this point, but hey, can't keep a guy from hoping, right?

Check the big square image below - that's actually one of the maps to be featured in this game, it's HUGE. Well, naturally, MAG is an MMO shooter after all. It needs to be huge.

No other details have been given on MAG just yet, so we'll have to play charades with these screenshots for now.

Judging by that 3rd shot, looks like it'll be an FPS. The other shots just look like promo shots and I don't think they'd let you be unarmed for no reason in a massive game like this.

Then again, it's Zipper, so it might actually have a true FP view as well as some sort of over-the-shoulder cam like the older Socoms.

» Wow..I can't wait!

But yeah, they said it'd be a lot like SOCOM, so I'm assuming that first person view may be optional, Just like all the previous SOCOM. Oh and lets keep Confrontation out of this, I'll burn that game once this comes out, lol. But that looks awesome, and that map is HUGE!

» Am i the only one who

JUST ***** THEIR PANTS?!?!?!

Thats so awesome. The graphics look AMAZING for something of that scale. Finally... something ingame to drool at. Can't wait to see it in motion. I

» Also,

It doesn't look like this is running on the engine that the new SOCOM game was running on... It actually looks like AA is turned on in this game lol.

I can't wait to get my hands on this... 255 other players sounds great. I wish they would make "ULTIMATE DEATHMATCH" with up to 256 players all against each other. That would be so kick ass....

Anyone have an explanation for the big yellow bullet trails? I don't get it.

» Re- whaleshark

As far as I know, it's not the socom engine. I highly doubt the Socom engine could do what they wanted. Also, the "new" socom engine was built by SlantSix (who also did the game :P) and thus has nothing to do with Zipper.

I think people are impressed because they assumed that 256 multiplayer would equal dumbed down graphics and such .

» yeah..

I think if they take that out it'll look way better.. Hate seeing yellow or white lines going across the screen.

Its kinda like what was in resistance 2, it makes the game look kind of dated with bullet trails on in my opinion.

by RavenSPe - 2009-04-05 10:12
» Actually...

I think once you play the game you'll learn to appreciate the bullet trails. When you can quite literally have 20+ people shooting/ambushing you it'd be nice to have some kind of idea where it's coming from. lol. We'll just have to wait and see though.

over the shoulder sucks. slant 6 added that crap view. now when you use nightvision you have no choice but to use over the shoulder. then when your in it and hit X to switch sides if your standing next to an object you climb over it or you pick up a gun. GOOD JOB SLANT SUX.

Zipper rules!

i hope they have 3rd and FPS on MAG. its going to be crazy having 256 players on that map.

Can't wait to hear about a Beta release!

Please, please, please Zipper!

How does it make the game look dated ?

The real military uses a marker bullet every X rounds in heavy machine guns....it's easier to tell where you are shooting. Not to mention it works well in gameplay as mentioned, and add's to the sense of crazyness...

» this will be amazing

32 or 64 players pfft.. what about 256 players? I don't think I've ever played a game with that many human-controlled players on at once. If its really tactical; where one player is the captain; it will be more structured and probably more enjoyable since everyone will have a role, otherwise it will be a free for all and only people good at the game will be staying alive for more than a minute. If this game has vehicles it will be even better.

» almost there

game makers are now to the point where the game i've been dreaming about is one console generation around the corner. it's like this, but with 2056 players, completely physics based (like RF:G), and one huge liberty city esque map. think of it: a skyscraper that, for some reason has attracted 150 players, having a shootout inside. you use some high explosives in the basement to take out the support columns, instantly bringing down the entire building, netting you a cool 150 kills. MAG IS ONLY THE BEGINNING.

» commanding

It would be fun to have a commander unit that stays in the base monitors and gives commands. Another nice addition would be radar equipment that could be setup to spy on enemy units. Landmines is a must too.
