Kazuma Kiryu - Image 1There's been some clarification from Sega about its Yakuza (Ryu ga Gotoku in Japan) series on the PlayStation 3. It turns out that the last installment Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan which some referred to as Yakuza 3 out west is not a sequel after all but a spin-off. The "real" Yakuza 3 is actually currently in development and is named in Japanese as Ryu ga Gotoku 3.

Pretty confusing at first, isn't it? Now that the title mix-up is out of the way, a few new details on the game's storyline have been given out. Yakuza 3 will take place mainly in the Kamiyacho locale where the series began, but it will now be a version of itself located in the Okinawa area.

Kazuma Kiryu and Haruka will still be the main characters and they'll be voiced by some of Japan's most popular actors. Producer Toshihiro Nagoshi says the time in-game will be two years after Yakuza 2's events, which coincide with real-life time.

Development for Yakuza 3 is said to be in full swing at Sega's NE Software R&D Planning Section and a PR push is underway to create home turf. We'll keep you updated on this upcoming PS3 exclusive as more news hits the streets.
