Sega AM2: Virtua Fighter 5 online play possible on PS3 |
Ó
PlayStation 3 owners who picked up a copy of Sega AM2's Virtua Fighter 5 (Xbox360, Arcade) may have noticed a lack of online multiplayer features for the game. This is unfortunate, considering those who want to test their fighting skills against other players.AM2's Assistant Manager Tohru Murayama was interviewed by 1UP at the last GC, where he let slip that online play play may be possible through a patch. He also explained why online play wasn't implemented in the game at its release:
In the case of PlayStation 3, our first priority was to convert Virtua Fighter 5 from the arcade onto [the PS3] as soon as possible. To achieve that purpose we had to give up the development of the online mode - we'd love to try if there was time and the budget but unfortunately, we had to give up on that idea.AM2 are sorry to PS3 users - a lot of people say that it is one of the missing things from the version.
Remember that it wasn't announced that a patch is forthcoming. It was only confirmed that it is possible to do so. Hopefully, Sega AM2 is a research and development team for the video game company Sega">Sega AM2 will decide to release a patch if the community shows enough interest in this.

Virtua Fighter 5 seems like a rushed, incomplete game anyway. Its too repetitive, has cheap voice acting and the physics suck. This game has low budget written all over it.
It will be awesome if sega release an online patch y won't someone start a petition for VF5 online patch?
That is no suprise. I'm still doubtful about how playable online will be for VF given latency issues. I'd at least be willing to give it a try though, since convience might make up for the issues.
i was going to buy this but after they said no online i stuck wit tekken, if ya do this buying it day one online comes out
That wud be like next NEXT gen rite? anyway Voice acting being cheap is true. Plus theres no ending to any players except end credits. I suck at this game. Tekken all the way!
Lag or not, online is the way to go. Honestly, would you rather have online play with lag, or no online play at all. And unless you live in a highly competietive area or have a bunch of friends that are equally skilled, chancess
are that VF5 has already been shelved in most homes. Unless you really like playing a fighting game by yourself.
I lived through Nintendo's empty promises of online. The reason I am now on the Sony bandwagon is for online. The only game I have that doesn't have it is Ninja Gaiden. Developers: If you want my money, you better have online, otherwise I will spend it elsewhere.
It really depends on which characters you play. I can play all of the characters, but I generally prefer Lau and Akira. Lau would probably be managable with lag, but for Akira it will probably be a deal breaker.
I'm not going to deny the value of easy access to competition, but it won't really have the same depth if moves like counters become crippled. But your point is well taken. Even if it isn't ideal I'd rather have it available then not.
What I really want for VF5 is the implementation of the extra goodies that the 360 version has:
Latest Revision of Arcade game
Extra costume items
Ability to mix and match parts (since Rev C)
Maybe a proper training mode to teach you the ins and outs?
Either that or come out with VF6 quick!~
Like the guy above said, online is the only way to go, we're in 2007 for gods sake!!
Laggy online is ALWAYS better than no online!!
Tekken is sooooooo frustrating when lagging, I'm an excellent player, but become pants due to the lag, I could kill someone when I lose due to lag, I told myself I'd never play it again and went back to playing the lag free computer with a smile on my face. But I kept coming back to online and its all I ever play now, I really can't see how I was ever satisfied with playing the computer, there's no contest.
AM2 realize they made a huge mistake by not going online, especially with namco going online with tekken. They will make an ad on patch.
Yeah, I agree there. Personally though, I'm gonna tide myself over with Tekken 5:DR online until VF6 Tekken 6, or an online patch of VF5 for my PS3 is made available. I still play Virtua Fighter 5 on my PS3 though, it's mad awesome even without online. I can understand why it doesn't have online play considering Sega's financial status.
Still, if one was made available I'd be the happiest PS3 owner in the world :P. And to the earlier person's comment.. show me an online petition and I'll sign it ASAP!!! I'd pay same price I'm about to pay for TK5:DR online, $9.99. But anywhere up to $20 is okay for me personally.
I wish that they would have included online features from day one. This would have helped bring some more mainstreamers to the game. I'd like for VF 6 to have better voice acting, and a better story.
There is nothing against a game like this going online. The only data needing to be sent over the line are the players input commands. The server would determine the movement and such, unless they make it client client ran which would pose some cheating problems.... Maybe not on a console though. Hardly a latency raiser, and with good enough prediction, interpolation, and compensation, this game would run flawless online. But if they haven't even started writing the net code yet, I highly doubt they will just throw all that money down the drain for a patch. Its a hell of a lot of work to do.
sega just love to screw ps3 owners. worst game company ever... should of just die alone w/dreamcast.
I doubt that there is enough interest in VF5 on PS3 now for them to implement online play. PS3 owners dont expect ALL of their games to be online like 360 owners do. The move was clearly directed at the 360 audience. Besides, unless the game was completely lag-free people many people would completely lose interest.
