Seeing red on your new PS3 |
Ó
Red is such a powerful color. It's mostly effective since it's the one that attracts our attention the most. And grab our attention it certainly will, especially if you see it flashing on your newly bought PlayStation 3. Yup, it most certainly is a sure-fire way to get you breaking out in a cold sweat.
Just check out the vid above. According to Blak06 (either the guy above or the one shooting the vid), "the PS3 shut off while playing Tony Hawk P8 after 3 hours of play." From then on, he just gets the flashing red light each time they try to reboot the console.
We really can't say if the guy just overworked his PS3 (every gamer should know that gaming time flies, so three hours for him could be anywhere between 6-12 hours in real life), if it's just a remote problem, or Tony Hawk's moves just got too hot to handle even by the most powerful console around. We could only hope it's nothing serious.
Anyway, now that the wait for the PS3 is over (at least until they release the remaining 600,000+ units for North America), what they now have to deal with are those defective consoles, which leaked out to the market.
Oh well, shoot happens.

That sux... hope he gets a new one... btw im first hehe!!
now he has to send it in for warranty and wait at least for about 2 months ^^
interesting to see the failiure rate. Probably lower than the 360, but we'll see.
I like how the article suggests that the PS3 should be expected to break after 12 hours of gameplay. Playing for 3 hours or 12 hours shouldn't matter. Hell, the guy could have been playing straight since it launched. If that amount of gameplay is enough to overwork a new console, then it is definitely not worth the money, let alone all the time spent in line waiting.
did no one else pick up on the fact he had his PS3 on the carpet!
Launch console or not that is a console no no
it evens states it in the manaul
plus sony have stated that 5 business days is the longest you should wait for a replacement console as they generally hold back about 8% of stock for thsi reason
I got a launch ps2 which was sold out and it died 2 days after and sony had a replacement to me in 2 days
with the percentage of the ps1/ps2 skyrocketing higher then the 360...i doubt the ps3 will be different.
I had my LAUNCH 360 on the carpet...and its a year later and no problems.
why is the ps3 different? it sucks?
aaah yes, Sony is pwned again. Thats like the 10th case Ive read about so far, and I thought the 360 failure rate was bad. Its been like a day and theres already videos of consoles dying. Hilarious! $600 down the drain, he should have got a 360!
if your 360 didnt die on the carpet then your just lucky but you would still have to be *****ing stupid to think running a console on the carpet is a good idea but hey you bought a 360 so it speaks for it self
do your checking before commenting
all companies expect up to 8% hardware failure as it just happens
360 had around a 27% hardware failure rate
Did he try to disconnect the powercord for a few sec to reset the psu?, that always work on my PC when i have similar overheat problems..
mad fanboys hahahahahahaha
When I was playing the ps3 kiosk at wal-mart the same thing happened to me as I was loading a game. Could be a software problem? Anywho I'm still having a great time with my ps3 here, problem free so far so I'm not complaining at all
No, the 360 hade 5% failure rate. You can't create your own statistics just because you are a fanboy.
I had a 360... well I won it per say. And I played it occasionally for a good month. But then sometimes it wouldnt start properly and it showed 3 red lights around the icon! I learned to live with it until that happened all the time and the console refused to boot! My box was out of the warrenty time and I had to pay $75 canadian (which is 50% of of the norm) to get the damn thing replaced with a refurbished console. I do not like microsoft for this. I hope this same kind of thing does not happen to the ps3!
I'm not getting one anyways, I might get a Wii! 360 is for looks, wii is for fun!
Several thousands of X360's self destructed. This is just one PS3.
Oh and btw, Xbox sucks.
Carpets are a no no....sure consoles now should be shielded, but it's just a generally good percaution to take...
That's what he gets for getting a beta, idiot...
it wouldnt die after 2 days on a carpet. the carpet thing is long term. i have my 360 on the carpet and havnt had any heat issues.
My friend left his gamecube on for 7 months once. Don't ask why, he just did XD
Yep, sometimes it's good to live in europe
360 aint for looks, 360 is all about mulitplayer and the best games you can come across. Go Gears Of War.
why would the carpet be a factor? neither of the consoles vent out thru the bottom so its pretty useless to say it. carpet issues are only if the console generates enough heat to start a fire on it(Something the ps3 shouldnt be doing)
hahahaha ps3 is unstable and crap
so it appears that the tin can (ps3) now f.u.c.k.s itself ... and gosh that nerd loser shouldnt have been playing crappy ***** games all nite... not to mention that ps3 buyers would give up sex for the ps3 hahahahaha LOSERS!
I GOT THE SAME THING ON MY GAMECUBE AND IT's BEEBBBBBBBBBBBB BBBBBBBBBBBBBBB BBBBBBBBBBBBBBB BBBBBBBBBBBBBBB BB for ever till i RESET THE GAMECUBE..
IT IS BECAUSE ****I GOT 10000000 POINTS ON IT!!* was CHEATING!!***** *****
I'm amazed at this trend where people are bickering about things that they BOUGHT!! Which console is better yaddy yaddy yadda... Unless you are MAKING money out of those consoles (wich if you were you wouldn't be chattering on this website). I have no problem when you are analyzing one aspect of a company versus another one and you come to the conclusion that you prefer one to the other, but insulting another company just because you don't like them is so childish! To me it's the same as the people that are buying T-Shirts with company logos on them... They are paying these companies to have the RIGHT to ADVERTISE for them! Reverse paid sponsorship! Sony and M$ are just laughing their @$$€$ off!
Obviously none of you know that a carpet is a good source of static electricity. That is a BIG no no for anything computer related. I've destroyed quite a few junk parts that way for fun. ^^
This guy beat me to it but if any of you know anything about computers carpet is a major source of static electricity and Sony shouldnt replace his console if we was stupid like that because you dont put anything with a CPU on the carpet whether computer or anything else
You stupid piece of *****, the 360 *****s up before 12 Hrs to the point where you have to get a new one, RETARD!!!!!!!
I agree fully with skreama
***** YOU!!!!, ***** MICROSOFT!!!!!! , AND ***** X360!!!!
Way to go Steve!!!

*************** **********.********** YOU STUPID PIECE OF SH.IT!!!!!!!! *****.********** YOU!!!!!!
You PS3 *****es made fun of the Xbox 360 for having launch problems. Look at this. PS3 has problems also. So eat your words, *****s
It is possible his power cable may have been fried. On many devices with lights, red or flashing red means the power is failing. Perhaps it wasn't connected to a surge protecter and got blasted.
