We've got scans from "Dengeki Playstation" below of the two upcoming Square Enix PS3 titles and, as our Japanese translation skills aren't that crystal clear either, we're still stumped. Our source Jeux-France does note that a quote from Tetsuya Nomura states:
If Final Fantasy XIII were the light, then Final Fantasy Versus XIII would be the shade. In Latin, versus means change of direction, whereas in English, that would like to say to oppose. It is the concept of this project.
Interesting, to say the least. Oh, and if you check the scans, one of them reveals how Guardian Force Shiva can actually turn into a motorbike in FF XIII. Curious, huh? Check the scans below!

2. The Shiva were called guardians in the article, but it translates more accurately into summon beasts, so I’m going to use it here.
3. There really wasn’t any good way to translate “the Holy Government”. The thing is they took the word government (seifu) and changed the first kanji (sei) into another one with the same pronunciation, but carrying a meaning of holy/saint. Basically they created a word that doesn’t exist in any dictionary, but actually caries both the meaning of government and the meaning of holiness. Really should be a better way to translate…
4. Sometimes it’s very hard to decide if something in Japanese is singular or plural. So I was left wondering about how many crystals there are in “FXIII”. Well I’ve come to my own conclusion, but just don’t be surprised if I turn out to be wrong.
5. I know that “foreign thing from outside” sounds lame. Foreign=outside. But if you really wanted an accurate translation, it would go something like “a thing different from other things, also probably not belonging here and its from outside”. The best a dictionary gave me was a foreign object from outside.

In this world, the mythical technology created by the Crystals and mechanical civilization created by humans coexist.

Toriyama: Well… yes. But because, differently from a god in religion, they exists as something that can be seen, the image is closer to everyday life.

Toriyama: Because of “FF’s” 20 year anniversary, we’re working hard to be able to make a surprising announcement this year. As we’re proceeding now, only movies are being released. Almost nothing is known about the nature of the protagonist, even the name. Seems have the blood of a certain royal family. (Can’t really make out the last sentence, says something about certainly looking royal, I think, and also mentions that the guy looks kind of sad).

Nomura Tetsuya: Well in the end it’s only a concept, but it assumes what a battle using a vast area would be like

Nomura: Even if you call it strong, its something like “Kingdom Hearts” (KH). “KH” also has complex movements, but controls themselves aren’t difficult. The specs of the PS3 are high, so I think is possible to have battles in places with very high altitude difference, just like in the movies. It’s not just about defeating enemies around you. I’m thinking about a battle using whole of space, including not only horizontal movements, but also vertical movements.
--: We can expect a lot of enemies showing themselves, can’t we?
