Guerrilla Games is going retro for the second Killzone 2 map pack. Called "Flash and Thunder", the second map pack will feature a pair of levels from the first Killzone given a bit of polish using Killzone 2 tech.
  • The Beach Head map sees the ISA tasked with defending a coastal stronghold against a Helghast landing force. This rain-lashed and windswept battlefield is limited in size – which means more action, more hand-to-hand combat, plenty of sneaking up on the enemy and melee kills galore.
  • The Southern Hills map sees the ISA attempting to storm a Helghast compound on top of a hill. A mixture of built-up terrain and wide open spaces – perfect for headshot sniper kills – this map is full of hiding places and offers the perfect battlefield for a large-scale game with lots of players.
The Flash and Thunder DLC will go live on June 11. You can purchase and download it from the PlayStation Store for US$ 5.99.

» the problem with these maps

is that you can't combine the new maps with the old maps, you have to chose new or old. It would be a lot better if you could play all the maps together.

Oh boy, I get to buy more old maps for mediocre fps. SWEET

Still not worth spending money on. They should change some stuff around or add some new things. The multiplayer gets VERY repetitive.

» YES YES YES

Finally, some KZ1 maps, and both of them were my top 2 favorite. I'll actually buy this pack. EFF YEAH.

LOL @ the people hating on the game. Like your commoner opinions actually matter, or will affect anyone else buying the game. Guess what? Guerilla already has you and everyone else's money if you bought it. They're richer than they were before. You think you got 'revenge' by taking the game back or something? Ha, that's just store credit. Get back to your CoD, kids.

Same here. No new missions or anything. Not much to play for.

It's a given that they'd have to modify the old maps to fit KZ2's gamemodes. I stopped playing KZ2 about 2 months ago out of boredom, since I'd already been in the beta. I'll probably get tired of these maps in a week or so, but the nostalgia - I can't pass it up.

Beach head. Anyone else feel like that map was pretty big when playing Killzone? Obviously now with with the PS3 and maps such as Phyrus it does dwarf it. I'd like to see how similar it is, was fairly difficult at times to dodge the snipers get to the base, take out the shotgunners and climb the tower to find a machine gunner blasting you. I wonder if it still will have the small hut with the grenade launcher in it xD.

I do love Killzone 2 regardless of people say, I find it almost more fun after having played a while. ( Games generally do get better as you do ). Once you've learned the map you begin to try and find good vantage points.

Only problem I do want addressed is the whole map splitting thing. I want to be able to make a game search based on the maps of my choice, old and new. Not just, old, new or just 1 of the maps I want. It is a shame not everyone has the map pack which is one flaw of custom matches. Also the ability to check the rules and maplist before entering the game.
