SCi Entertainment wants PS3 price cuts too - Image 1Eidos Interactive parent company SCi Entertainment has just announced its financial results for the year ending June 2007. And among other details, it appears that SCi agrees with many of us gamers in saying that the PlayStation 3 could really use another price cut.

This much we're picking up based on SCi Chairman Tim Ryan's statements from the said financial reports. The SCi boss explained that such a price cut would be vital for the console's long-term success. Here reads Ryan's statement:

The Board continues to believe in the long-term commercial success of PlayStation 3 but believes this may take more time than originally forecast by Sony. The Board is of the opinion that the key driver to the acceleration of the installed base of PlayStation 3 will be a further hardware price cut.

Ryan further stated that total company revenues for the year were £ 144.0 million ( US$ 291), a 20% decrease from last year's figures. While the PS3's already received a hefty 100 US$ price cut last July, Eidos U.S. CEO Bill Gardner stated soon-after that it wouldn't be enough to draw in the expected mass market that Sony was aiming for.

Then there's the new mystery PS3 40 GB that's rumored to be coming out, as well as the analyst speculations that Sony might indeed be introducing more PS3 price slashes come next year. On a last note, it appears that (according to Gamesindustry) that previous speculations of biddings for the SCi Entertainment are indeed true. Current bidders for the company, based on our last report, are Ubisoft, Times Warner, and a third yet-to-be-named Chinese company. We'll let you know in case we find more details about this last news snippet, given that negotiations are reportedly ongoing.

Have you ever stopped to think even for a second that maybe we dont want to be part of the mass market?

Do you know what the mass market is? Do you know who they cater to? The answer to both: Automatons.

The mass market includes Britney Spears and Ricky Martin. CNN and Fox News. Ted Turner and Rupert Murdoc. These are not idols, they are FALSE Idols..

I dont give a damn if you want to follow the masses, but leave me out of it and stop assuming you can speak for me as a PS3 owner.

I happily paid out the a$$ for my exceptional piece of hardware and if you cant do the same, you're not worthy of it. PS3 is the Mercedes Benz of home entertainment. Just get in your damn pickup trucks and go back to the woods Grizzly Addams..

Halo is your leader. Halo is all knowing. Halo is your leader. Halo is all knowing. Halo is your leader. Halo is all knowing.

Publishers need to make money to develop games.

People talk about the Wii have such bad third party sales, but the PS3 isn''t much better. It could be worse soon.

» Ya

And without the mass market, your exceptional piece of hardware becomes the next 3DO.

Good luck with that.

» yep

@Keith K if the mass market don't buy the ps3 developers won't be interested that mean no exclusives or m$ or nintendo would get the exclusives n that would mean the death of the ps3 like the 3DO.

» do it

If Kaz Hirai is thinking about a PS3 price cut every day and everyone is asking for one every day, why the hell doesn't he give in already?

It's going to only help the PS3 brand in the long run and ensure it's survival, hopefully for the 10 years they keep telling us. I already have one, but still want to see a price cut. They should just make 2 SKUs again, with a new version similar to the old 20GB version, without the emotion engine, WiFi, memory card readers, and 40GB hard drive for $399 (if they haven't already.)

i sort of agree with what keith said and people should understand that ps3 was released 9 months ago and it sells for $600 and sold 5.5 mil already. i have all the systems and i can tell you that i was a big nintendo fan before and then i bought the wii and was turned off by them. it took me a while to be turned off by nintendo cause red steel sucked, zelda was ok but i still say it sucked. nintendo is last gen and they will fail. the wii wont sell more than 35 mill in its life cycle. i was turned off by the wii cause im a hardcore gamer and the wii just sucks , the games suck. i bought metroid prime 3 and i hate it, graphics suck, and people could argue with me all day about how the graphics look good but guess what, they look good to be good graphics back in 2001, not 2007.

the xbox 360 now, i useto love it and hated the ps3 cause the ps3 was expensive or so i thought. i bought pgr3, prey, moto gp 06, test drive unl. forza 2, perfect dark and a few others but i hated them all, the only game i truly like that gave me the next gen experience i wanted was gears of war and lost planet. it took me about a year to get something good that i was proud of to have for the xbox 360 and by the time i got gears of war, i had two broken xbox 360s in my room on the ground but i was still happy to be a 360 fan cause nothing else was out to match the 360's specs.

ps3 was released and i hated it, and i then played it at a friends house and loved it. i played resistance fall of man and i just had to have a ps3. i bought the ps3 and was broke and had to take my girlfriend out that night. lets just say me and my chick walked around at a board walk and shared a sprite all *****ing night. anyway, i went home that night excited to play the ps3, i had no games but i downloaded the demos and was blown away by what the fcvk i was looking at. genji looked pretty but controls were not my cup of tea, resistance demo was awesome, gt hd blew me away and had me in awe. i couldnt buy a game for ps3 until another 3 weeks but i played and useto my ps3 and had fun. for me, the demos on my ps3 killed everything i had on my xbox except for gears and lost planet. i love the ps3 cause im a hardcore gamer that wants graphics, and gameplay. other than gears and lost planet and maybe bioshock, ive not been impressed by anything on my xbox 360.

a lot of people bought halo 3 and loved it, i bought it and im done with it. its a nice game, story was ok, the online play is massive but ive been playing halo 2 since 2004 and now im sick of the same sh''. halo 3 didnt do anything special and thats my opinion, and it was a let down for me just like metroid prime 3. next big game suppse to be mass effect and that just looks like a big bore. i want a heaven ly sword on xbox 360 also, i want a motor storm on xbox also , but you know what, ps3 has games, xbox 360 has games but the games coming out on the ps3 destroys the graphics ive seen on a lot of xbox 360 games. motor storm was beautiful, lair was awesome and beautiful, heavenly sword is beautiful. i have the right to say all ive said cause they are my opinions which are back up by facts, i have all the systems and i prefer the ps3 cause the games which mostly are 1st party games kill everything on the 360. xbox live id -- dylantalon. ps3 id - dylantalon. i take all friend requests.

» And...

What does that have to do with what he said. He basically said if the mass market doesn't want to pay bank for a PS3, then screw them.

And again, no mass market + 3DO part 2.

Well, at least if it comes to that you can still run Linux on it.

Whats more important a price-cut or game library?

I mean You xbox fanboys or some PS3 fans complain that PS3 has no games, well why lower the price again now, THEY NEED TO MAKE A BIGGER LIBRARY FIRST!!!!!

After that if early 2008 or in the spring if they choose to lower the price than thats the way to go, but now lowering the price would seem desperate. Let Sony continue there plan, they sell more consoles and games than MS and Nintendo combined. in history. Which is why There #1 in the gaming world.
