Scheduled PSN maintenance on June 24 to make way for PS3 FW 2.40?

It looks like the wait for trophies and in-game XMB won't take too long now. According to the Customer Help section in the official PlayStation 3 website, PlayStation Network is slated to have its next scheduled maintenance next morning, starting on June 24 at 8 am Pacific Time. Don't believe us? Check out the official statement taken from the PlayStation 3 website:

The PLAYSTATIONÂ®Network will be taken offline during the following times for a scheduled maintenance:

Starting on June 24, 2008, at 8:00 a.m., Pacific Time

Ending on June 24, 2008, at 2:00 p.m., Pacific Time

During this time, access to the PLAYSTATION Network will be restricted, including:

- No access to the PLAYSTATIONÂ®Store

- No access to play online games on the PLAYSTATION Network

There you have it. So what does this maintenance mean? Well, we don't know for sure, but we can all speculate at this point that we may be seeing a possible implementation of the PS3 2.40 firmware very soon. It won't hurt to hope. After all, it's going to hit our PlayStation 3 consoles sooner or later anyway.

They'll surely update it like always. This is surely just, like it's saying, a maintenance shut down, nothing special about that. Maybe they'll optimize some code, remove some bugs they were having, I dunno.

Still, They also could be testing the update since it's a big one, on the real servers. It's hard to say. Or maybe they are simply adding more servers for the launch of the update, since we'll now have more stuff online, like the gamercards that will update themself automatically, etc.

Dunno. Still, I would hope to see the 2.4 as soon as this week, that's for sure. But I don't think it's gonna be like that.

I'm wondering if they're not only going to put new stuff on the playstation store, but maybe set up some kind of server or something that's related to the trophy system. I'm just not quite sure.

It could be the update, or even the SOCOM Confrontation closed beta thats bound to be coming up, or it could just be a big playstation store update.

This might sound noobish, probably is, but, wth is gamercards? Is this gonna be like the knew profile or something? Sounds lame, but I believe 2.40 will be released.

About my subject bar, i'm thrilled about 2.40 with in-game xmb and music, but my dad has no benefit as he wants blu-ray stuff. I asked what more can he want...i'm still waiting for the answer, lolz

i think they will do it.. either have the 2.40 update or put in some cool extra's to prepare for the 2.40 update's bag of goodies. well have to wait and see.

oh and btw does this mean that during the duration of the maintanence time we can not play online on our games? or just cant access the ps store? cuz if its a full shut down,then im REALLY curious since its a BIG accomplishment for sony and its fans for the 2.40 update.if not then it might just be like they said "maintenence" .

you wont be able to play online with your games OR access the PSstore/PSN from what I heard. I still seriously don't think anything will happen. Theres been lots of maintanences before and nothing ever happens, so why would it be different this time. I personally hope I'm wrong and something happens but I don't think that'll happen.

where the only ones who Curse out are system yell at it. the makers, the tech guys, are PS3 its self. me and others complain alot about are ps3 lol. 360 fans never did. and i bet if i didnt write this down people would of been like this. well we would not be complaining if we didnt have InGame XMB or Home. one of those would be nice. then there would be a nother blog on who will be boy cotting on the PS3 lol ( took that from jay and Sielent Bob)

Maybe we'll get 2.37, which will patch something that's already fixed. Oh, everyone wants 2.40, a firmware bringing in features we should have had since Day One?

Nah, Sony knows us well and they know we love waiting for extended periods of time, so they'll probably release 2.40 around E3. You know, just because they already will bring tons of awesome things, they just have to make us wait even longer for something such as a Firmware.

Not only is update 2.4 on the 24th but I think the real give-away is that my playstation 3 news bar says: New PS3 System Software Coming Soon.

i think the chances are high that we'll receive it real soon, i mean shutting down the playstation store? last time they did that was for the playstation store updated look. so chances are high we should be receiving it sometime this week at the very least.

The maintenance is over, and there's no update nor is there any changes to the store or anything else. It them 6 hours to do nothing basically.

And I could still play online games while it was going on the entire time. The only thing that happened was an error message that appeared any time you tried to enter the Store.

Just because there is no visible change doesn't mean there wasn't any changes at all. 2.40 is going to have trophies, and if they're going to release it soon, they might want to prepare the servers for it. You can't just assume all the servers are going to know what to do with the trophies. They have to further the programming.

2.40 = July 1st.

Found out from someone who actually works for Sony (whom will go unnamed because I'm sure Sony would get on his arse because he already reported the Trophies and Gamertag screenshots) that we would have had 2.40 on the 18th of this month, but it got pushed back due to a crucial bug that was found.

Basically if you don't believe me, go to the front page of www.n4g.com or whatever. The link should be there, talking about in-game soundtracks, and a list of quotes from the guy will be there.

Well actually, NarooN is right, it was delayed on the 18th as he said, due to a crutial bug in the XMB.

However it may not come on the 1st of July, most likely the 2nd or 3rd.
