Michael Denny - Image 1 No man is an island. And for Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, the PS3's growing online network signals the console's branching from a stand-alone gaming platform to a "connected" machine - with games evolving from downloadable content. Thus was the message SCE Worldwide VP Michael Denny stated in a recent interview. “We need to come up with relevant content. We need to extend our offerings and create active communities of loyal consumers.”

SCEE Internal Development director Clemens Wangerin further added that downloadable content “has shown how much choice you can give a consumer," which Clemens added keeps the gaming fresh, even for relatively old titles. It will be remembered that his team made a foray into downloadables with Wipeout Pure, with them expected to make a similar setup for downloadable content for the upcoming PS3 title F1 Championship Edition.

Lastly, we have SCEE External Development director John Rostron adding his two cents to Sony's e-Distribution Initiative. As he explained his side on the PlayStation Store:

We donÂ’t want to churn out a series of arcade games or titles you can freely get on the web...what I like is that you get to see a broad range of titles, and weÂ’re on the look out for something thatÂ’s new or innovative.

It will be further noted that SCEE's External dev team is currently publishing the titles MotorStorm and Pursuit Force.

Make sure to look out for Phil Harrison's keynotes at this year's GDC, which will provide for details on Sony's Network plans for the PS3.
