ps3 hard drive - Image 1Japanese Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. Spokesman Satoshi Fukuoka was quoted hinting that the consumer electronics giant may release a version of the Sony PlayStation 3 with a bigger hard drive.

"The company is (also) considering introducing the model with a bigger hard disk," said Fukuoka. He refused to shed light on details but he said that it was based on feedback they were getting from PS3 users. This may be related to the fact that the 60GB version of the console has proven far more popular than the 20GB model.

"It's in line with our strategy as we had planed to choose models based on consumer needs,''  says the SCEI spokesman, solidifying Sony's confirmation that the more expensive PS3 will only be made available in North America.

In related developments, Sony stocks have been on a roll as it hit a two-month high hot in the heels of a four-year high. The company surpassed analyst forecasts and is estimated to rake in an equivalent of US$ 3.4 billion. A "buy" rating has been placed on the company's shares and the surge is expected to last long. Profits are also on the rise.

Sony, however, denies that it has any intentions at all of putting out 10 million PS3s this coming fiscal year. The company says that there's no reason to deviate from the 6 million unit plan already set for the next cycle. ?Por Que?

"The company is also considering introducing the model with a bigger hard disk, *****uoka said, without providing details. " No details released, and it's in the "considering phase" I would label that as a hint... Sony Stock is up, and they are on course to sell their projected 6 million units. Wow, the people with money are in support of Sony's business model. However, in fanboy terms 6 million units keeps then in last place in terms of total sells. You bloggers and media types can spout whatever you want about Sony and the PS3, I'm gonna side with the dudes with the Money and continue to enjoy my PS3.

YAyy!!!

I really need a new hard drive for my PS3 because I already have 30 GB of music on it and counting!

yeah...

all we really need are bigger HD's to swap in.

Swapping

Swapping is good, but having enough space to start with would be better. I just hope they go with more space than the 80gb they applied for. Also if they are smart they'll be sure to keep the price reasonable instead of charging crazy premiums for space the way Microsoft does. It make sense for them to keep a lower target, then can ensure better quality, and they don't want to push them into the market faster than people are adopting HD set.

A normal 2.5" HDD works in the PS3

That's right any normal 2.5" laptop hdd works in a PS3, even a 3.5" one works if you get an adaptor and have it external. Sony hasn't locked down the hdd you can use to only the one they sell (majorly overpriced aswell) like some other company. Or just get a USB HDD, that works just fine too.

The 60GB version

... was more popular because it had the card readers, Wi-Fi, and (until nearing its unveiling) was believed to be the only one with HDMI. The Hard Drive size on a PS3 means squat, since you can upgrade it at your own free will. It's not like people need to buy a whole new console to get more hard drive space *nudge nudge* Frankly, I'd rather keep the 20 and 60GB versions, and drop the price than to make a 120GB (or whatever) version, and piss off more gamers with an even higher priced PS3. But that's me.

The PS3 sucks anyway.

Adding a bigger Hard Drive is not going to do anything to save the PS3 . Its your killer apps are the ones doing the Sales.
by - 2007-04-14 04:45:13
yeah

why buy a new ps3 with big HD when you can just buy a new max capacity available 2.5 HD and change your existing ps3 HD. that will save you money. BTW the PS3 picture used is old/outdated, my 20gb model PS3 has HDMI, and it can do everything its bigger twin brother can do except wifi on its own. which isnt a hazzle because cable connection is better, even 60gb owners use cable instead of wifi if possible.

QJ Uses old images too...

Showing the 20 gig model without HDMI... Why not say hinting when they are really considering.... lol
