PS Store - Image 1Ever since the new Playstation Store was introduced in Europe, quite a number of gamers have been complaining about the slow loading time for the icons. A representative from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has released a statement regarding this.

According to Lestrade, a community team leader on the Europe PlayStation forums, Sony is already aware of the problem and that it is a temporary consequence of the new system implementation and high global traffic levels.

If the statement proves to be true, then we can probably expect the PlayStation Store to load much faster as time goes on.

We (the U.S. guys) had the same problem. Icons would take ages to come up, but you could still read the names and descriptions and even download things.

» I dont believe

I dont believe that this is the truth. High traffic levels cause images to load slowly but EVERYTHING else to load at the same speed. It doesnt even make a difference what the time is. I doubt theres so much more people on PSN than there was before, theres no new content yet it just looks different.

"it is a temporary consequence of the new system implementation and high global traffic levels."

I call BS on this one! It's an obvious flaw in the system. The globe doesn't connect to any one site in specific.

The slow icons where seen the SECOND the site opened up and remained slow every hour of the day. Even into the wee (?) hours of the night. No way in hell was there high traffic at that time. If "THAT" amount of traffic will affect the icons then they will always be affected.

Luckily that's not the case (says me) and they'll mostly likely have it fixed sooner then later.

» Hmm hope they sort it soon

Seeing as all downloads are all superquick its got to be a problem with the site/server thats serving up the actual icons

And i swear I read they were going to allow the new store to cache icons which isnt happening as they load everytime I enter the store surely this would cut bandwidth usage massively once everyones cached the icons etc

» Yes some people here don't realise how internet works

Just because downloads go fast it doesn't mean it hosted off the same server. And also when they mean global demand, they mean on their servers not on the internet as a whole.

Caching(thought they should already have this ) and prefetching would be a great idea

Maybe they should just stop using the one server for the whole worlds ps3 users now there more than 30 of us

by xche78x - 2008-04-17 04:40
» dont worry

they are currently building more servers in planet mars, so each and everyone of us ps3 users can have a dedicated server each.

lucky for me the current server is in japan, where i live and the loading is not that terrible. anyways this is not news. the PSN servers are working fine, just a percent slower than usual to the growing number of PSN users everyday. and Sony know and are updating as nescesary. dont believe the negative hype spawned by bots.

It still doesn't make sense. If it was a traffic issue then it would FLUCTUATE with the traffic. But it doesn't. The icons ALWAYS don't load properly. Regardless of time of day all around the world.

Every single PSN server can't be overloaded 24/7. Something else is wrong with it.
