SCEE: PlayStation 3 has to suffer, Killzone 2 has 1.1 million pre-orders

It's no secret that the video game industry is suffering, and of the three consoles, Sony has the greatest piece of the suffering pie. I never liked pie.

SCEE president David Reeves though, doesn't seem fazed by Sony's continuing losses, saying that Sony has to suffer so that they'll still be standing when all is said and done:

We simply have to suffer a little. Go down in market share and mind-share.

It's like Ali v Foreman - go eight or nine rounds and let him punch himself out. We're still standing, we're still profitable and there's a lot of fight in us. I don't say we will land a knockout blow, but we're there and we're fighting.

My objective is financial - to make a profit in our territory by the end of March, and we will. Our priority has always been the PS3; the forecast was 10m at the beginning of the year and it's still 10m.

If we'd cut the price, lost another billion dollars, we might have had a huge Christmas but it would have been followed by a huge loss. The company could have thought: 'Hmm, I'm not sure I want to be in this business at all.' But we've shown Sony this is still a good business to have.

Admittedly, in the current climate, more people will go for the lower price, but we still make a profit and that is our objective

Things will look brighter for Sony in the future though, especially with Killzone 2 coming out. The game already has 1.1 million pre-orders. Better pre-order yours now or you're likely not going to see a copy until everyone else finished the game.

not in the slightest surprised about the sheer number of preorders for Killzone 2. Preordered mine months ago and have been looking forward to it since! But OMG 1.1 million!!

It's still shocking..

As for the comments, I'd like to believe thats true, however, how beaten down is the PS3, I keep my faith, love my PS3 too much!

Preorder at Amazon by February 26 and get $5 off and Home Avatar clothing and avoid tax in some states. Also its already 3 dollars cheaper then gamestop so in some states u get a total of 8$ off. Might not sound much but thats about the price of what a game used to cost with tax.

Nobody is making you pre-order. It is a service provided to those people who aren't slackers, stoners, and procrastinators . I've already got my KZ2 paid off and my demo, so now I don't have to worry about having money put aside for when it comes out.

Also, how do you think the stores get enough copies to have extra to sell to you? It is because they get alot of pre-orders. If nobody pre-ordered good luck getting your hands on a copy. Basically what I'm saying is stop *****ing about something that does not hurt anyone in anyway. As Isaac said, if you don't want to pre-order, then don't.

If We Didnt Share Those We Wouldve Got Some Good Sales But NOoooooooo Pepole are cheap and want 360 gaaaaaaaaaaaay well whatevers its the games that count

that they should make more exclusives but the games you mentioned are from 3rd party publishers so its up to them if they wanted to make it exclusive but I won't count out Sony's 1st party games and 2nd party games out, Uncharted 2, God of War 3, FFvs13 (if they decide to keep exclusive), Killzone 2 (of course), White Knight Chronicles, and the title I'm most looking forward to which doesn't even have a title, the game from Team ICO.

Or they'll all be gone? Man, you guys should come to Canada, I've never seen anywhere run out of games, we always have to many copies. When Gears and Resistance came out my local Best Buy had literally 150 copies of each game just sitting on the shelf waiting to be sold and someone I knew who worked there said there were two more full boxes of each in the back....its odd, we always seem to have an abundance of games and hardware up here. I guess we maybe get the same number as you guys but just don't have the population to sell out.

@ mr420.....u sound like a female on her period.... wait r u? lol jk... but mr420 does hae a point tho... i'm like 1 of the biggest mgs fans and b4 mgs4 came out, i didnt bother to preorder it... wanna know y? other than gamestop, ebgames wal-mart etc.. there r those local bootlegged gamestores also.. it has names like gameworld, gameplaza etc... so i thought that if mgs4 comes out on the 12th of june.08, they should atleast get their copies on the 11th, so i just went to them on the 11th and asked them, and voila, they had it..lol.... so i didnt even preorder it but i got it a day early... hopefully, i will do the same thing with killzone 2.. i know this game is gonna be great and i thought it would get ateast a few perfect scores, but even tho it got good scores, i haven't seena single perfect score yet...

Ico wasn't even that popular of a game, and neither was it's spiritual successor, Shadow of the Collosus. Both were great games, but neither really got the attention of the masses. Announcing Ico 3 (when there isn't even an Ico 2) wouldn't make much of a difference.

ICO is not a huge popular game but it is so damn good! So was Shadow! Some games can be very popular but aren't even close compare to masterpiece like ICO and Shadow
