SCEE boss not sure if PS3 will last its 10-year lifespan |

One of Sony's main arguments to defend against the Xbox 360 is the PlayStation 3's longevity. They once even said that the console is future-proof, and will last longer than the PS2 will. But now, even SCEE prez David Reeves isn't sure the console will go completely through its supposed 10-year lifespan, saying:
The competition will have new models on the market by the end of the PS3. I have no doubt and weÂ’ll have to be fast on our feet.....I donÂ’t know whether the PS3 lifespan will be eight, nine or ten years.
He does add though, that the PlayStation 4 is not "on the horizon" yet. And it really shouldn't be - even Microsoft's Robbie Bach expects this generation to last longer than previous ones.

Crap economy or not, the ps3 needs more time to come into its own, as does the 360.

The competition has upped it's game on all fronts, pushing everyone, more so for Sony and MS with their own services and features which is very similar in how they work. 360 and PS3 is nearly equal now except the overall sales worldwide, but even that's slowly closing the gap. There's no guarantee any of the consoles, even PS3, will be supported. But then again, SCEE has a habit of talking a Load of BS. Remember this "Sorry we don't pay games to stay exclusive or content. We rather use the money to make top notch premiere games like Little Big Planet instead..." SCEE stated this, which i'm sure it was Reeves. So while I can see his point, I don't think it's not going to be supported. I mean the PS4(or whatever it's called) and the next Xbox will probably release around 2012-2013.

Secondly, people tend to forget about "last gen" systems once the new ones start coming out. Look at any system. Once the Ps3 came out, you had about 2-3 months of high profile ps2 games left then the numbers droped. Same for xbox -> xbox 360. Its all market, if sony is the only system with "last" gen technology when the xbox 720 comes out, you can bet it will be a major marketing tool for microcrap.
"Look at our system it reads data 10x as fast, has 4x the HDD, and has 4gb of ram!! You can't even make a game on the 720 that the ps3 could handel!"
The ps3 did the same thing this generation.

Killzone 2 was announced at E3 in 2005, and so was Alan Wake. Killzone 2 is out now but I have yet to see any gameplay footage of Alan Wake.
Team Fortress 2 was announced in 1999 and Too Human was announced as a PS1 game. Then there's Duke Nukem Forever...
I'm just happy at the number of quality exclusives announced for 2009, 2010 and beyond, not to mention what will be announced at this years E3, the 2 new projects from Kojima stuff from other 3rd party devs.
Hopefully Versus XIII won't be too far off (probably 2011) and maybe Valve will announce Half-Life 3 (after HL2 Ep3 comes out) along with a new Counter-Strike.

for humans, ten years may not seem likesuch a long time, but for technology and developments, ten years can and i promise you will, make a lot of difference,
