We have NO immediate plans to drop the price of the PS3 system - Image 1Here's something in case you wanted to dash your hopes of a PS3 price cut.

Wanting to get at the bottom of the current rumors floating around of a price cut, VGChartz contacted SCEA for comment, and got this reply:

SCEA has no immediate plans to drop the price of the PS3 system.

As you know, NPD sales numbers for February will be announced today and will include Killzone 2 sales the first couple of days at retail. Given that the title launched so late in the month, we'll see the majority of sales in March.

Killzone 2 experienced the highest presale numbers of any first party PS3 title to date and we anticipate that it will be a blockbuster for PS3 and the PlayStation brand.

Tricky with wording as always, with the presence of the word "immediate" there. Next week could be interpreted as the not-immediate future, really, so all hopes are not lost. And hey, at least we know that Killzone 2 experience the highest presale number of any first party PS3 title to date. Ain't that neat. But then, we already knew that.

Well

a comment like this is hardly surprising. But there are a few things said here that could be questioned. As mentioned in the article, the question of how SCEA defines 'immediate' is there. But this is a comment from SCEA, so does that mean there could be an imminent price cut in Europe (etc.)? And of course, they might want to get away from the idea that there could be a price cut and surprise us all.. Or maybe they're tearing their hair out trying to tell us 'THERE WON'T BE A PRICE CUT!!!!'

price cut

if there were no plans for price cut ever - they would tell us bluntly.

Really?

If they confirmed that there wouldn't ever be a price cut then many people would put the PS3 out of their minds and run on over to the 360. With that little bit of hope in their minds they might not.

Good news

Congrats Sony with KZ2, now I'm hoping Uncharted 2 and God of War 3 will surpass the sales that KZ2 has gotten.

i am sick of hearing news that some idiots say the PS3 is going to have a price cut and that sony always say no why not just post some news when sony CONFIRMS that there will be a price cut i bought a PS3 on launch so it doesn't bother me anyways

Christ...

...f**k off with these recurring "will there be a price drop" stories, Sony have said time and time again that they won't drop the price. It's like a child saying "Are we there yet??" F***ING NO!!!

...

You know what you should do Sony, you should RAISE the price everytime one of these poor dropouts complains. If the little *****s wanted a PS3 so badly then they would have stayed in school instead of dropping out and had gotten a real job. If it werent for the ageism associated with PSN then your console would be the best gaming platform ever made period and would be worth over $4000 easy. Even with the ageism it is still worth at least $2000 so why not charge $3000 and make a profit? Let the little *****ed dropouts play their crappy 360's, there already braindead anyway.

No PS3 price cut!!!!!!???????

Really????!!!!............You don't say????!!!! Folks just give it a rest already!

So true

I also bought mine at launch for $599. Nearly 2 1/2 years have gone by since it's release and if it hasn't motivated you enough to save and maybe sacrifice then you must not really want it that bad. How long are people willing to wait on price drops?

I suppose

It's news and it doesn't matter what it says. It's posted to get thoughts from the gamers. I hate of hearing the price cut too, but not much we can do. The people or analysts just reiterate what's commonly known already.
