SCEA customer support agent gets scammed, imposter gains PSN user account access |
Ó
Customers and subscribers are not the only ones who get scammed: an IT personnel imposter gained access to Sony Computer Entertainment of America's PlayStation Network user records, after tricking a SCEA employee into giving important information on how to access the database.Kimberly Otzman of Corporate Communications emphasized that the incident is not a security breach, since the hacker did not actually break into the network. She said:
Just to clarify, there has been no hacking or electronic breach to any of SCEA's electronic security systems. An as-yet-unidentified PSN user impersonating an SCEA IT employee apparently called customer service agents in order to gain unauthorized access to two PSN user accounts not belonging to the imposter. The unauthorized accessing of the two accounts was discovered immediately after it took place, the unauthorized access was disabled, and the account-holders were notified.
It's just unfortunate that even employees themselves can be tricked into giving out sensitive customer information, but Otzman said that no financial damage has been done, and the access was disabled.

all the security in the world cant stop humans making mistakes. It happens all the time
I would love to know what was said to trick the SCEA employee. "Hello there, I work for Sony and have forgotten how to get into the database. Could you tell me how?"
I heard this was Rumor atm.
I hope it was Dark Alex, stealing some stuff to help homebrew!! :D
