PS3 - Image 1

News spread all over the net over the past few days saying that there may be talks between Facebook and Sony to come up with an in-game integration between the PS3 and the social networking site. Actually, there are still no concrete directions on the matter, and John Koller was merely talking about PS3 and social media in general.

Confusion may have started after the John Koller's talk in the M16 Games Marketing Summit, when he said someone could be playing PS3 and have it "spit out something to Facebook," addind that it is "critical not just for marketing but for the types of games we're trying to develop. That day is coming quicker than some may think."

SCEA already contacted Joystiq to clarify:

There's nothing imminent in the pipeline between PS3 and Facebook or any social media sites. The point Koller was making is that the day when the console market in general will have tighter integration with social media isn't too far off. SCEA is always evaluating opportunities that might expand where and how the PS3 community interacts.

So contrary to what has been going around, Sony and Facebook are not in talks. Koller merely made use of Facebook as an example of the possible intergration of the console to social media. "That day is coming quicker than some may think," he said, but that's no indication that they're already in talks with any social networking sites. Sony's still working towards that end.

For now, it's this little guy that's on Facebook:

Why would you want to have people know all about you while you play a game. This would just give rise to another kind of stereotyping that could look at you as potential problems or something such as when you play GTA, you like metal music, your favorite colors are black and red, so you must have killed the prostitute down the street. Employers and police use Facebook as a tool and personally I don't like people looking at me other than the reason I want them to, such as I want to play a video game for fun and entertainment, not to be put in a police lineup.
