SCE UK Boss Expressed Disappointment On PS3's Delay

Ray Maguire"We are extremely disappointed at news of this delay. We can truly empathise with everyone who was looking forward to PS3's imminent release," stated managing director of SCE UK Ray Maguire on the news that the launch date for PAL territories like Europe will be pushed as far back as March next year.

Although many are disappointed on the delay, Maguire promised that the March 2007 launch is "the biggest and the best in the company's history." But will this compromise the failure of SCE to meet customer's expectation of the console? Also, can Sony bring back customer loyalty after several of its products, including the exploding lithium-ion batteries, seemed to be lacking quality control? Well, only the people can decide.

More fanboy fodder, but while sony is suffering laughable misfortune, we mustn't write off a system before it's even released. But damn, PS3 is some juicy, juicy hamhock for the nes/ms fanboys to rend

» PS3 is dead

It's a fact right now.

500 000 units on launch, launch in Europe delayed, price is big, for a product that will come out in 2007.

I can't see why ANYONE would wait for it.

I was gonna try get my PS3 import anyway... UK too expensive... this news changes little to me, apart from I'll have to get games from abroad too... which will probably also be cheaper.

They obviously arent going to die.... as dissapointed as I am in Sony, think the same of Electronic Arts.

Everyone that knows anything about games, knows EA kills and milks franchises, buys out competition, and steals creativity. but 80-90% of the general public have no clue, and guess how many units they move on every game?

Sony will have limited numbers at luanch and after, but guess what item is going to be this exclusive hot holiday gift? The PS3.. it will sell out. It will continue to. If anything this is smarter than flooding the market with 3 million PS3's and 12 *****ty launch titles.

» sad

is no one simply sad? i see so many angry 'f*** sony' posts, but aren't you a little bit mournful that ps3 won't make it to the millions of europeans who are eagerly awaiting it, for another 5 months or so...

yes, import, lets all get on top of that, i know several good import sites (some of which manage to avoid import duties!!) and i got my psp before the uk release, at about 50 quid less than the uk price...

still, it makes me unhappy that ps3 isn't coming here soon, it means the adverts will all be for 360 this xmas. if nintendo really doubled their marketing budget from gamecube for the wii that basically means they'll have 2 small posters up instead of one... i never saw any gamecube ads.

i'm going to go cry now, i want a ps3 (i haven't the cash, but i'd beg borrow and steal to get my claws on one!)

» could be bad really.

if this is true which it seems to be then 360 (even Wii) has a HUGE advantage.

Xmas is when Company's take a huge percent of their yearly income.

People are properly just gunna buy because they need a gift or don't wanna wait.

It's bad for Sony in Pal areas and also for BluRay.

Mircosoft also have Halo 3 plus other games for the 2007 holiday season.

I bet MS and Nintendo are dancing on their desks after hearing this.

» I have never has a problem with sony products

I've got a Sony Laptop, PS, PS2, MP3 player, headphones, TV and used other various Sony products and have no problems what so ever. No bad optical drives, exploding batteries or other problems.

Also, I live in Canada... so I'm going to be nabbing me a PS3 come November.

» Let's See

All you Sony haters that said because of this news, you'll not buy a PS3 anymore. You know what? It doesn't matter. If Sony decide to release the PS3 tomorrow, you haters will still not buy it anyway. As for the rest of us, it doesn't matter when the PS3 comes out. When it is out, we'll buy it, and we'll enjoy next generation gaming while you Xbots play your Xbox 1.5 that looks barely better than the PS2. Lol.

by TheProfessor - 2006-09-06 11:05
» I doubt Europe would buy too much into the 360 even after this

The machine sells worst than the Xbox did at the same time there and the PS2 is currently outselling it on a 6:1 ratio.

Don't get me wrong this is bad news for Sony because whatever many products the shipped were going to get sold especially in Europe. Europe loves Sony products though and yes they will wait for march. Retailers will probably sell pre-orders on Christmas for the machine. Actually At GC in Germany it was reported that PS3 already had more pre orders than the PS2 has before launching.

Not sure which is sadder, the fact that this still wont help the 360 or that Sony is losing on many potential early adaptors.

» pathetic

af anyone thinks this doesn't help microsoft, or doesn't hurt sony, you are f**ing morons.

They will lose quite a lot of business in europe.

They just HANDED japan to the Wii.

They have extremely pissed off a number of developers who will have to cut their q4 stock profits, especially 1st party ones.

They will have ticked off the blu-ray consortium who was expecting 4 million blu-rays in homes this xmas, giving even more market share to hd-dvd, which is already leading. which will cut into home movie market profits.

by this spring Wii will have a big lead(6 million+), MS will have almost 15 million to sony's 2, maybe 4million (they say 6 by spring, but for some reason I don't believe them)

the ripple effects are huge

This is bad for sony...period.

by at lol - 2006-09-07 00:21
» Um.. to 20

ITS STILL COMING OUT IN JAPAN. Delays are PAL region only. Less units to Japan, yes, but if its out, just with a sold out sign, people wont say 'its sold out, lets get a Wii' (assuming its what they went to get) they will say "OMFGz, its shweet, lets book in for next shipment!"

The only issue is Europe, a big supporter of Playstation, which currently isnt overly excited about the 360, but a christmas with no new playstation could lead to problems.
