SCE Australia holds off on any price cuts for its 60GB PS3 units - Image 1

With the new line of 40GB and 60GB PlayStation 3 units happily littering homes everywhere around Europe, gamers in Australia are wondering when they'll be able to enjoy the cheaper deals being offered to their European counterparts. The possible answer to that question might sadly be: never.

A lot of people around the country are finding this rather unfair considering Sony Computer Entertainment Australia is a subsidiary of the European branch, who are getting the much appreciated price-cuts on its 60GB PS3 line.

Accordingly, SCE Australia reasoned that the reason behind this move is that the stocks for AU$ 999 60GB PS3 units "are all but dried up".

Until more announcements from SCE Australia come up, it seems that those expecting to get a PS3 this Christmas will still cost them an arm and a leg just for a souped up 60GB unit. Either that or they can settle for the smaller 40GB version with no backwards compatibility.

» So what they are actually saying is,

we have more then enough 60 gb Playstations in stock and won't consider announcing a lower price till we sold those. Sounds logical.

Well rumor have said the 40GB is going to be $698. The 60GB is currently $998! Australia has yet to receive a price cut, I feel sorry for all the suckers that buy the 60GB only to find 3 weeks or so later there's a $300 price cut. Ouch, you bastards. LOL

» Today Australian dollar was worth 90c US

lets see, would you pay $895 USD for a PS3?

I can't imagine stocks being sold out unless we were given hardly any stocks in the first place, I don't know a single person who's bought a PS3 or even considered it at the current price.

I keep telling people to wait but instead they go out and buy xbox's

I've know idea what sony australia is doing but you can guarantee greed has something to do with it.

» My thoughts exactly.

In effect they want us to pay $900USD for something the US gets for $500USD.

Its actually cheaper to buy it on ebay for $600 and pay $100 to ship it. Greedy *****ers.

» there really is none

hey i work at a major australia retailer and we havent been able to get stock of the 60gb model for about 5 weeks, this is not just an issue for my shop but also the whole company which has about 100 shops australia wide. also just for our store we have sold more ps3 consoles than wii consoles and wii was released last december.

» you're right

that's because Sony just announced they're canceling the 60gb version

They don't sell, they assume we don't won't them, they stop supplying, we run out of stock.

They conclude it's all the customers fault, (insert derogatory comment here)
