Say Cheese: The official PS3 and HDMI cable photo |
Ó
That the PS3 with 20GB HDD will ship with HDMI v1.3 as standard is not exactly fresh news. Sony made that announcement at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) last year.
HDMI v1.3 supports a feature called "deep color" that allows devices to process and display a great number of colors. It also has greater bandwidth (up to 450MHz) enabling displays to handle 1080i at 60Hz with 36-bit RGB color or 1080p with 90Hz refresh rate with 36-bit color. HDMI v1.3 also supports Dolby HD and DTS-HD audio standards.
But since Sony decided to ship the PS3 minus the HDMI cable (because there aren't enough HDMI TVs in the market yet) you might be wondering how your future PS3 will look with the HDMI cable. Well, there it is. They make a lovely couple, don't they?
The PS3 has a new recommended retail price of US$429 (Tax Included) in Japan.

I would prefer DVI instead of HDMI. No monitor uses HDMI.
HDMI is only a new useless standard for the filmindustries.
with HDMI you can't even use it on a computer monitor that is able to output 1080p.
tell me 1 TV that is buyable in europe for less then 1000€ that has a native resolution of 1920x1080.
there are so many PC monitors that are able to output this for ~300€. but they all have a DVI input and no HDMI.
well get a HDMI-DVI.... well your sorted, next whiner about technology they dont have?
HDMI and DVI are pin-to-pin compatible, they are basically the same inteface, with different connector, but HDMI has extra bandwith for digital audio output and HDCP content protection.
Buy a HDMI-DVI adaptor, problem solved !
BTW, look at the photo, it seems that now he 20GB version has silver PS3 logo too, but minus the silver trim.
you're either really ignorant or just darn lazy.
HDMI is interchangeable with DVI.
Get a cheap under-$10(or even under $5) HDMI-to-DVI adaptor, and your monitor can display HDMI suddenly:O
Problem is, DVI doesn't carry sound.
Lucky for me, my Soundcard has Optical-In so I can use Optical for sound, DVI for Apple 23" Cinema Display, and enjoy 7.1 "RIIIIIDGE RACERRRRR"
about the damned price of an HDMI cable. They can be had for $20, don't buy into that Monster crap, the cables arent worth $0.01 more, nevermind $100
and the whole "riiiidge racerrr" thing isnt funny... at all...
because it's actually a great game.
I see the picture of the 20gb unit with HDMI, but isn't that just a picture of the 60gb unit from behind?
I thought the 20gb unit was flat black with no chrome, but on this picture the spiderman font is in chrome?
Is this yet another sku to deal with ? (sarcasm)
Both the 20gb and 60gb models now have the 'Playstation 3' lettering in chrome. The 60gb model still has the chrome sections on the front of the console to differentiate between both models.
IS THE HDMI CABLE COMING BUNDLED WITH THE PS3 ?OR WILL I HAVE TO BUY IT ?
Probably not, however Sony does like to surprise us sometimes (like the hdmi 20gb model). So I say it's up in the air til release time.
thanks
